@ 3Fig is a private dinner club set in the residence of an up market guesthouse in Newlands. The interior and delectable four-course dinner sets the stage for a night of indulgence, conversation and personal attention. Arrive between 19h15 and 19h45 for drinks and canapés before the evening commences with great food and fine wine. As gourmet chef Neill Anthony takes the helm (flamboyantly showing his skills attained working in the kitchen of Gordon Ramsay) wander through the kitchen and watch the magic unfold. The weekly menu is complimented by wine pairing expert David Wibberley (The founder of borde (aux) room) allowing each dish to perfectly compliment each glass of wine. Summer evenings embrace dining alfresco on the covered patio and cooler nights seek warmth in the cosy library.

If you are in Cape Town and have not yet visited 1890 Sushi House and Grill, then you are seriously missing out. Some like to keep it a secret just to make sure they will always have a table. Capetonians all agree that this is the best and most delicious sushi in town with a grill to match. One does not even notice the simple and slightly bare décor because you are just too busy socialising over the fresh sushi – or fresh turn-table sushi – and large portions. The most difficult choice is will I only order sushi or take on one of the mouth-watering chicken, duck, pork, beef or seafood dishes. You will be sure to spot Charlie, the owner, ensuring that all his patrons are happy and catching up with his regulars. Be sure to book a table at this very popular and reasonably priced restaurant in Observatory, Cape Town. They are open from Monday to Saturday for lunch and dinner. The best sushi in Cape Town!

Why write about a burger joint? It doesn't seem so odd if the burgers are more like a work of art than a meal. 3rd Hudsons are really onto a recipe for success. Great service, great portions and great fresh ingredients is at the order of the day. The best ground meats are selected and it is claimed to contain more than 20 % less fat than normal. The toppings are freshly made as well and include traditional favourites as well as more exciting options. Be sure to try the mint and jalapeno salsa, in itself an explosion of flavours. How does a perfectly cooked patty topped with tomato relish, biltong dust, chilli cream cheese and sliced battered jalapeno rings sound? Too good to be true? Not here. The relaxed sense of humor on the menu is very refreshing and the Ba-rack-o-lama, or La Di Dah (with ostrich meat) are examples of this. For vegetarians they offer a delicious chick pea and lentil burger with fresh goat's cheese and avo. This is a must-try and must-repeat experience.

The restaurant is set in the historic Manor House which creates an Old World, stylish atmosphere that exudes the class and elegance of bygone eras. The interior is filled with antiques juxtaposed by modern, fine dining cuisine. The menu caters for all tastes and meat, seafood and vegetarian options are varied and plentiful. Only the freshest produce is used and this shines through in the bursts of flavour delivered on every plate. Try the imaginative Fish Tank, a mix of seafood served in a glass fish bowl - what an experience. The lamb trilogy is also a favourite and comprises lamb loin, lamb tortellini and a succulent lamb cutlet. A great, extensive wine list and a range of other beverages including whiskeys and smooth cognacs are served to complement the cuisine. This is the ideal setting for private functions and special occasions and proves to be a treat for the laymen, the foodie and the connoisseur.

Every room has a fireplace which creates a fantastic cosy and romantic atmosphere and much-needed warmth in winter. All this coupled with friendly and efficient service. A Taste of Asia is well known for its buffet specials and it is advisable to book in advance. Look out for their live band nights. Bring your wine and have a hearty time. Street parking is available and the best place to look is the down the one-way just before the restaurant. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. Lunch hours are from Tuesday to Friday, from 12 pm to 3 pm. Dinner is served every day from 6 pm to 10:30 pm. Please call for further information.
