When conceptualizing our new restaurant, we became aware of the special qualities of the number five. Five is the number of harmony and balance. Five is the number of perfection. Five is the number of senses in the human body - touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight. Five is the number of basic tastes - sweet, sour, salt, bitter and umami. Our restaurant comprises five rooms namely the dining room, study, library, bedroom and radio lounge. The handwritten menu written on butcher’s paper is taped to the walls showcasing light and healthy options complimented by local and organic ingredients. Drinks are limited but full of flavour such as the handmade old-fashioned lemonade and wild plum juice. Wine offerings are limited with choice of white or red organic wine. The menu leans towards fusion and Asian dishes alongside an interesting take on pub inspired dishes served with a beer of the day. The décor exudes modern black and white gothic effects, photographs and dripping candles and live jazz. Local lad, Reuben Riffel, is much fêted. The food is wonderful - Brasserie style. It is necessary to book even in winter but it is easier to get a luncheon booking. Sit in the shady courtyard under the white stinkwood trees. There's an interesting pub section where the bar-counter is the wing of a Dakota airplane. During the day one can eat in a different sectioon of the courtyard where light food from their deli is served. Open seven days a week.
