Welcome to McGregor Backpackers, where your hosts Geoff and Dorothy Botton along with their ‘backpacker mutts’ Gracie, Jessie and Phoebe, are waiting to welcome you to their little world of peace and serenity. McGregor Backpackers is situated in the heart of McGregor, surrounded by the majestic Langeberg Mountains, and just a short stroll away from all the places of interest in the village. McGregor Backpackers offers you a complete homely experience with a fully fitted kitchen and modern gas cooking convenience. The kitchen has everything you need if you are in the mood to cook up a storm. The cosy dining room, with its Gaudi-inspired fireplace, invites you to sit and linger over a meal or a lovely glass of wine. The lounge area offers DStv, a selection of games, magazines and books. Wi-Fi is also available so you can stay in touch. If its game time then Pooky's pub is just the right place for you to watch that important game and cheer for the home side. The braai area is made for interesting ‘around the fire’ conversations, bring your musical instruments and entertain the crowds that are sure to gather there. Braai wood can be supplied at a small fee. Weber braai facilities are also available. There are a variety of different rooms at the backpackers. A total of 22 people can be accommodated in the backpacker’s comfortable rooms, mostly all with en suite facilities, except for two buddy rooms which would share a communal bathroom. All linen and towels are supplied. McGregor with its beautiful climate, clean air, wonderful night skies, not to mention its friendly people, beckoned and we could not resist her call. You can visit the coffee shops, chat with the locals and allow the relaxed pace to slow your heartbeat down. There are many activities for visitors to McGregor, we have beautiful walks and hikes, the level of effort is up to you, or you can just park off and relax in the tranquillity of our beautiful gardens. There are a number of local wineries to visit for wine tasting and purchasing those lovely wines that may not be available in your local wine shop at home You can bring your mountain bike and go and explore the countryside, take the highways or the byways, you never know what you will encounter till you get there.

Come and visit Whipstock Guest Farm and turn back time to a more relaxed pace of life away from the hustle and bustle. Located in the rain shadow of the Sonderend Mountains, on the banks of the Koningsriver, we have kept a small part of rural South Africa remarkably untouched by progress. We offer two self-catering and three bed and breakfast cottages, each with an atmosphere and charm of its own. The cottages are equipped with fridges, coffee and tea-making facilities and fireplaces. The accommodation reflects its natural surroundings of beautiful countryside living. The commons room offers a small bar area; we are not licensed so bring your own, with large fireplace, dining room and a television with full DSTV. A variety of board games are also available and a library is available for readers to browse. Whipstock Guest Farm is a prefect getaway for adults with children, as the farm offers a myriad of activities to keep everyone busy. There is a wonderful farm dam with clean mountain water for swimming and canoeing - perfect for those hotter summer days. The surrounding areas are underdeveloped, lending a rustic charm to the scenery for great walks or mountain bike rides. Short and longer trails have been laid out on the farm such as the Over the Hills walk and the Valley Walk. With Whipstock Farm far from any development, the night sky is clear and the stars are unbelievably visible. At night, stargazing is a journey into another world. The surrounding wine estates offer stylish wine-tasting outings, and the fascinating, historic and artist town of McGregor is only 7 km away, providing a small store for basics, numerous shops, and restaurants.

The cottages are romantic, self-catering Cape Georgian-style cottages set in beautiful gardens with mountain views - simply perfect for two. The Cottage sleeps a total of four guests, but it is ideal for a couple sharing. There is an open loft with a double bed and two single beds in the living area. The bathroom has a flush toilet and a shower and the kitchen is gas operated. The Cottage is self-catering with an inside braai, a gas geyser for hot water in the shower and kitchen and a solar panel providing energy for the lights at night. Klipspringer is a breakaway to experience the peace and silence of nature, ideal for those who want to get away from the busy city life. Be on the lookout for grysbok, black eagles and sunbirds that are restricted to the Western Cape only. Enjoy hiking, cycling, birdwatching, 4x4 trails and stargazing. Boesmanskloof Accommodation - Die Galg offers ideal overnight accommodation for hikers on the trail and guests wanting to get away from the city. Guests can choose between the comfortable Stone Barn Huts or one of the lovely white Thatch Cottages. All accommodation is self-catering and all units are equipped with crockery, cutlery and cookware, as well as electricity, a two-plate stove and a kettle. Each unit also features an indoor fireplace and is furnished with single beds. The bathrooms consist of showers only and bedding is provided. Wood is available at and additional cost and must be ordered before arrival. Guests can make use of the swimming pool, the jungle gym will keep the children entertained, and the 11 km Rooikrantzberg Rocky 4x4 Route will keep the adventurous busy. A selection of hiking trails can be found in the area, but please note a permit is needed to do the well-known Boesmanskloof/Die Galg Trail. Oak Falls is half way to Greyton and is the ideal place for a rest and to enjoy the rock pool. Plant lovers can enjoy identifying the Cape fynbos and other beautiful flowers including Compacta, Repens, Speldekussings, Heide and much more. The variety of eagles, owls, Malachite sunbird and much more can also be seen by the avid bird watcher, and small, shy antelope are frequently seen browsing close to the cottages. Go for a picnic and enjoy the view with coffee or wine and enjoy the fresh mountain air and the peaceful atmosphere. Grocery purchases can also be done on behalf of hikers before arrival, at a cost of 20% of the total value of the groceries purchased. Boesmanskloof is situated 16 km from McGregor and can accommodate groups of up to 60 - ideal for church and school camps.
