Silver Hill Lodge is a privately owned estate situated in the beautiful Kamberg Valley of the Central Drakensberg, a mere 35 minutes from Nottingham Road and Mooi River. The Little Berg mountain range, with Mount Cleopatra, Mount Erskine and Mount Lebanon, provide the backdrops of the estate comprising a Bed and Breakfast Lodge and two self-catering units.

This area is a favourite with nature lovers, hikers and fisherman alike, and if you simply enjoy the peace and tranquility of the mountains, then this is the perfect place for you. There are many activities to keep the energetic going such as hiking, fly-fishing, boating, volley ball, and a 300-metre golf driving range. For the more relaxed, simply sit and absorb the surroundings, as for the children, there is a play area that includes a swimming pool, trampoline and a jungle gym.

Enjoy trout fishing in our dams or in the rivers and streams that run abundantly through the estate. Small waterfalls cascade in the higher grounds of the mountain slopes and little springs pop up in unexpected places. There are five dams on the estate which also boasts its own mountain and natural forest.

Enjoy a picnic or sundowners on the banks of the river, around a wood fire or enjoy the sounds of the river gushing over the rocks into rock pools where in summer this is a fun spot for a quick dip to cool off or swim. Take a stroll down to the wetlands or along the many trails on the estate or take a hike up the mountain and enjoy the beautiful views of the Kamberg Valley. Along the way there are numerous types of flora and fauna, animal life, buck and eland to look out for.

Mountain View Ranch is a beautiful ranch is set on a 24ha of property, with the picturesque Little Mooi River meandering through the fields.

With horses, blesbok and Nguni cows grazing in the paddocks, it is a nature lovers dream. The majestic Mount Lebanon stands guard over the ranch, and on a clear day, the Giant and Cleopatra are both clearly visible. Many hours of fun can be had swimming, fishing and picnicking down at the river. For those who want to relax, sitting on the veranda watching the prolific bird life and sipping a cocktail can be the answer to the end of a busy week in the office. Regular visitors to the farm are vulture, fish eagles, martial eagles, crowned eagles, kites, kestrels and many smaller bird species. A camera, binoculars and a bird book are a must!

This comfortable and relaxed family ranch boasts five double bedrooms, two of which are en-suite, and a bunk room sleeping four. All the bedrooms have magnificent views of the mountains. The farm house has three bathrooms and one guest toilet. Leading off the spacious kitchen and dining room is the piazza area with an additional dining table, a fireplace and a large pizza oven. This is the centre of the ranch and to escape the dramatic mountain storms, drinking wine or simply sitting chatting to friends and family. The large comfortable lounge leads off the piazza area and is perfect for those lazy days when a cup of coffee and a good book are the order of the day. Many games of monopoly, cards and other games have been played in front of the roaring fire.

For the smaller family, the farm also has a beautiful self-contained cottage that sleeps four.

The area around the farm has beautiful nature trails that start as you open the paddock gate. Mountain biking, great single track, walking, running, swimming or just exploring the river couldn’t get better in the fresh mountain air. Test yourself by riding or walking up to Highmore Nature Reserve, a World Heritage Site and the source of the Little Mooi.

Anyone staying at Mountain View Ranch will be given a honorary membership during their stay to fish at any of the Wild Fly fishing dams, of which there are more than 10 within 10 km. Please enquire when making your reservation.

The farm Allendale was purchased with the view of creating a unique destination celebrating the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg World Heritage Site in an historic agricultural setting.

Allendale is a largely untouched and secluded valley that abounds with game and birdlife, including herds of up to 300 eland. It has exceptional topography dominated by the sandstone features of Ntabanyama and Gladstone’s Nose, and is criss-crossed with numerous streams and rivers including the Reekie Lynn, a tributary of the Mooi River.

It has views of the main escarpment as one retreat out of the valley towards the eastern boundary. The ecology is basically a grassland environment interspersed with clumps of forest and wooded areas and includes both undisturbed areas and ex-agricultural land in the valleys.

Accommodation is offered in two completely separate homesteads in different parts of the reserve. These can be hired independently of each other, or for complete privacy and exclusive use of the reserve, together. The Main House is a luxury stone farm house with a wrap-around veranda, situated in an established garden and farmstead with breathtaking views into the Midlands. The Manager’s House is a rustic stone farm house with a wrap-around veranda, situated in an established garden and farmstead with breathtaking views of the valley.

Guests are required to bring all their own food and drinks and cook for themselves unless another arrangement has been made. Both houses are serviced twice daily and staff can assist with basic cooking and food preparation, teas and coffees, lighting of fires, and saddling of horses.

The property is located approximately 35 km from Nottingham Road village on the Kamberg-Lotheni Road, bordering onto the Kamberg Nature Reserve. It is accessible from both the Kamberg-Rosetta Road and the Lower Lotheni Road.
