Situated in the picturesque village of Winterton in the foothills of the Drakensberg, Lilac Lodge has a number of cottages available, ranging from a two sleeper to a ten sleeper.

All the cottages are tastefully decorated and equipped to make your stay as comfortable as possible with en suite rooms and TV. Available are braai areas, pool, and trampoline and play area for children in a lovely big garden. You can also enjoy good South African home baked foods at our restaurant 'The Purple House'. Sit back, relax and enjoy wonderful hospitality and let us spoil you.

We offer berg hikes, mountain meander arts and crafts trail, Spieonkop Nature Reserve, Cheese Farm, world-famous Drakensberg Boys Choir school, Battle Fields and historic sites and golf, which is all within easy reach.

Ouma Se Opstal is a beautiful, historic residence constructed in 1902. This 100-year old homestead is situated at the foothills of the majestic Drakensberg Mountains. It is surrounded by a lush garden offering a tranquil setting for families and groups to relax and unwind.

The house can comfortably sleep eight adults in four bedrooms with a selection of double and single beds. There are four bathrooms that service these rooms, of which one is en-suite. The house is fully equipped for self-catering with a modern kitchen equipped with a microwave, stove and all cutlery and crockery. Adjacent to the kitchen is a cosy breakfast nook, where the family can enjoy meals together. The spacious dining room offers a large dining table seating six, and looks onto the living room with comfortable seating and ceiling fans. A lovely veranda surrounds the house and is acceptable from the bedrooms.

The large garden has ample place for children to play. A number of hiking trails and historical sites surround the area, ready for you to explore and enjoy.

Treks, Trips and Trails consist of four stand-alone self-catering units scattered on a 50 acre smallholding adjoining the Bell Park Dam.

Bahati Tree Lodge, an upmarket tree house for a romantic get-away for two people. A third can be accommodated but no children under 10. Bergvlei Garden Cottage, a secure six sleeper unit close to the main house with good views from the deck in the garden.

Treks, Trips and Trails has a beautiful rock pool for swimming, access to the dam for bass fishing and short walks from the various cottages. Each suite comprises a luxurious king-size bed with the comfort of Oxford white linen. There is also a fully equipped kitchen with a microwave, stove and fridge, and an en-suite bathroom with towels provided.

Barbecue facilities are available for guests and braai packs and braai sandwiches can be arranged on request. Shaded parking is available for guests and each unit has a list of things to do in the area, along with contact numbers.

Mount Champagne is situated near to all amenities, including a shop and restaurant as well as the Champagne Sports Golf Course, while the resort itself offers a delightful swimming pool area, tennis, fishing, and canoeing.

Mount Champagne Cottage comfortably accommodates up to eight guests and comprises four bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen, and dining area. The four bedrooms all contain double beds and the cottage has three bathrooms. The lounge features a fireplace and a TV with DStv - the ideal place to curl up on those chilly winter evenings. The dining area contains a six-seater dining table and chairs, and the kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with a stove and oven, microwave, kettle, and toaster. Features also include a spacious and secluded garden which is just right for sunbathing, with the Sterkspruit river just a stone’s throw away.

There are extensive walks and organized hikes in the surrounding area and the famous Drakensberg World Heritage Site. Other activities include trips to rock art sites, horse riding, mountain biking, and helicopter trips. The resort, a two-hour drive from Durban and four hours from Johannesburg, is ideal for a weekend getaway or a longer, more leisurely stay and is situated in a malaria-free area. We encourage group bookings and can arrange various recreational activities. An all-weather road extends to our front gate and provides easy access to the many amenities of the area which include fine hotels, restaurants and golf courses of which the Champagne Sports Resort 18 hole championship course is a favourite amongst the golfing fraternity.

All chalets have magnificent mountain views and are fully equipped with stoves, microwaves, DStv and braai (Barbeque) areas. The resort has a rock pool and Lapa alongside which is an outdoor braai (barbeque) area with a pizza oven and Mongolian braai ideal for group entertaining. Wits End is a stone's throw from the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park, one of only 7 sites world-wide awarded World Heritage status in 3 categories, for archaeology, vegetation and geology. This a wonderful area for hiking, swimming in the clean water of mountain streams, and discovering unique wild flowers and san rock art. The internationally acclaimed Drakensberg Boys Choir School is close to Wits End so guests may attend the weekly term-time concerts. The school's bi-annual music festivals are another attraction not to be missed.

Die Stal Self-catering is an old cow shed that has been transformed into a cottage to give groups and families that true farm-stay feeling. The Cottage is located 15 km outside Winterton.

The Cottage consists of three bedrooms, two of which are en-suite, as well as a large living area that has been furnished with six single beds. The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove and oven, a kettle, a toaster, a microwave, as well as cutlery and crockery. Guests can relax in the lounge which also has a cosy fireplace for those cold days.

The Cottage has a private lapa that has a built-in braai and guests can relax and view the Drakensberg Mountains as well as the Tugela River that flows on the farm grounds. Although smaller groups will be accepted, please note preference will be given to a group of 12 people.

Various activities can be enjoyed on the farm from fishing, hiking and birdwatching, to off-road drives. Guests are welcome to bring along their quad bikes or any toys. The town itself also has a few attractions and guests can visit the Winterton Museum which holds a display on the history of farming in the area as well as a unique gallery of San paintings. The Drakensberg Boys’ Choir also performs in the town in the week and over weekends. Various nature reserves and national parks can also be visited in the area.
