About Hebron Haven Hotel

Hebron Haven Hotel was developed around the concept of providing accommodation to travelling people and this lead to additional rooms being built as the demand increased. Later, with the development of Michaelhouse and Hilton, there was great demand for accommodation during sporting events and on weekends when parents came to visit the boys. Earlier years saw Hebron as a working farm and the home of the Lions River Polo Club. Guest farms as getaway destinations were also at a time very popular.

As business improved so more rooms were needed and old storerooms and outbuildings were converted into rooms as these amenities were moved further from the public view. This has given rise to the Old English feel of Hebron Haven where every room has its own character. Unfortunately this is a bit of a builder’s nightmare with no uniformity in design, shape or structure. Doors and windows were fitted as they were available, with very little matching the next building. This however gives Hebron its own charm and uniqueness.

There is a continuous programme of refurbishment in the rooms as well as on the property. The rooms are tastefully decorated with soft furnishings that further enhance the Old English atmosphere and provide a comfortable night's sleep, and reservations are sometimes made up to a year in advance to secure accommodation.

The main building features a very comfortable lounge to relax in, read a book, chat with friends, or just enjoy the ambiance of the country in front of the fireplace. The King and Riddle pub is a firm favourite with the locals, and offers an almost tangible atmosphere perhaps remnant of the elation of previous wins by the Natal Sharks. Sporting events, locals’ night on Thursdays, and Sunday lunches fill the pub to capacity, adding to the spirit of the King and Riddle.

Hebron Haven is child friendly and family orientated, offering 33 en-suite bedrooms accommodating up to 96 guests. Rooms may be double, twin or family size, sleeping from two to five in a room.

We have stayed at Hebron before, some years back. We were pleasantly surprised by the current management who met us at the door and then catered for our every need. The dinner that was served up was simply delicious and also very good quantity.

The hotel is very run down and the garden is a huge mess. The owner quickly came and mowed the lawn in front of our room, while we were at the pub having sundowners, with a very old and noisy ride on mower. Why do this, when in front of the door to our room, is overgrown with weeds? The room is also very outdated and the mattress was thin and rock hard.On the positive side I take my hat off to Lorraine and the other staff who really are friendly and very efficient. They went out of their way to serve us and provide for us. The food was very good.

We enjoyed the breakfasts and dinners, but even though I requested a room with 2 single beds and a bath when booking, this was obviously not taken into consideration. After requesting this again at reception, we were provided with a family room with single beds and a bath. The room had not been prepared for us - there were dirty glasses and no towels. The DSTV was not working, the room was freezing cold (the electric blanket on my bed had no plug) and there weren't enough blankets. We did report the problems - but as I've seen on previous reviews, we were also told that the DSTV had been...

We enjoyed our stay, but feel it was a bit expensive for what we got. It was clean, friendly, but also very basic with no frills and we just expected a bit more. Our next night was spent somewhere else at half the price and double the enjoyment, so maybe if we didn't have something to compare with it would have been better! But the entertainment for our smaller kids was wonderful, they loved the outdoor play area!!
