Victoria West Reviews
A Gem of the Karoo
Victoria West has suffered the effects of change over time, but there is a a resurgent community that has invested in the town and there are changes afoot. The evidence of poverty in the local informal settlement and the poorer end of town is evident, but the town is still special. We recommend a visit ... be sure to take your blinkers off and enjoy the "dorp".
This was our first time in Victoria West and I cannot really comment on what the town has to offer however it is a quaint little Karoo town which for me is the furthermost point from JHB on the N12 before pulling over for the night...Peperboom made the trip worthwhile however I'm cettain there are other guest houses and lodges that offer pleasant accommodation for the weary traveller
Northern Cape hospitality
I had passed theough on a previous occasion and Victoria West looked quaint eniugh to pique my interest to stay. Very hot and dry in early January. Many guest houses in beautifully restored Victorian buildings. There is only one restaurant at present.. (Meals therefore generally available at your guest house.) Service at the restaurant pleasant. Note that your meal request may not be available due to no stock/sold out reasons. Servings are large. Was an enjoyable dinner out. there are walks/hiking trails, but did not get to do this.

One night stopover
I didn't have time to see anything of interest unfortunately - it really was a quick "in and out" visit on the two nights that I stayed.Victoria West looks shabby and run-down. It would not entice me to stay for a weekend to explore the area. The exterior of the shops need re-plastering and painting, as do most of the houses that I passed. It does however, look a very "quaint" place to explore. I can only give a star rating of 1 star, only because this was my own very limited experience so it might be a bit unfair. I've marked it down because of the poor condition of the houses, shops and...see more
Lovely antique town in the Karoo
Most of the town is situated off the main road, which causes many people to be misled about it's size and interest value. It is situated in a beautiful area of the Karoo and features a large dam with interesting water birds. The old Karoo style houses and the two churches and museum are excellent photo opportunities well worth a visit. The Merino Restaurant is however not worth a visit at all. While the service is ok, the food and crockery was not up to standard at all! Victoria West could definitely do with a better restaurant. I would definitely sleep over in Victoria West rather that Beaufo...see more
