This well established country house dating from the 1930’s is situated on a magnificent Nature Estate of 1400 hectares. It nestles in a secluded amphitheatre in the foothills of the majestic Drakensberg and is a sanctuary for all who visit. The Nature Reserve features five eco-systems, including indigenous forest, grassland, riverine, mountain and pine forest, showcasing the area's rich diversity of flowers, animals, and bird life. The nurturing environment has attracted the return of many of the species that once roamed the region, including oribi, rietbuck, bushbuck, bush pig, leopard, serval, caracal, baboon and eland. This stretch of the Mooi River is highly regarded by fly-fishermen who enjoy challenging the Wild Brown Trout that have been here since the 1870’s, and there are also six well-stocked still water dams for the fisherman’s further enjoyment. Other activities include walking, mountain biking, and bird watching. The evenings are a time to relax on the terrace overlooking the river or in front of a roaring log fire in the cosy Ingwenya Pub. This can be followed with the enjoyment of fine country dining in our gracious dining room. The climate of The Bend has year round attraction with distinct differences between the four seasons - the fresh green of spring, followed by lush summer, then mellow autumn with its rich colours, and finally the crisp winter days with the occasional excitement of snow. The Bend Country House has welcomed guests since 1994 and has provided the setting for many memorable weddings and celebrations. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Oribi Gorge Guest Farm is situated on the Oribi Gorge, within wasy reach of Shelly Beach, Uvongo, Margate, and some of South Africa’s favourite seaside resort areas. The breathtaking Oribi Gorge, just 25 minutes inland from Port Shepstone, has been described as an ‘African Grand Canyon’. Although it is not as deep or long, the comparison is indisputable as you view the Mzimkulwana River winding its way through lush pristine wilderness between the precipitous rocky gorge walls. The Oribi Gorge Guest Farm offers accommodation in three guest houses, namely the Shuttleworth House, Nerrily Cottage, and Lindile Lodge. All are fully self-catering, with no shortage of modern appliances. They share equally in comfort and homeliness, but differ widely and beautifully from each other in their decor and theme. Oribi Gorge Guest Farm offers visitors two holidays in one. With the beaches in easy reach guests can vary their seaside recreational activities with games of squash, tennis or bass fishing, 4x4 game viewing, horse riding or even white water rafting and rock climbing nearby. Once you've checked in at Oribi Gorge Guest Farm you'll be able to make daytrips to Port Shepstone, Shelly Beach and the rest of the coastal beach communities. The nice thing is that no matter where you go you'll never be very far from your home on the farm. Game viewing at Lake Eland Game Reserve is part of the Oribi experience, and you only have to go a few kilometres from the farm to enjoy it. See blesbuck, red hartebeest, kudu, impala, blue wildebeest and zebra. Keep your eyes peeled for reedbuck, bushbuck, blue and grey duiker, oribi, cerval cat, giraffe and lynx too. Other nearby activities include hikes in the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve.

The colourful history of Prynnsberg Manor - its grand foundation, its decline and eventual save from ruin - is well documented. Partially renovated - but glorious all the same Prynnsberg is a strictly private estate and is therefore not open to walk in visitors. The eclectically appointed Manor house and Arran (the original Game Keepers Lodge) can be booked by prior arrangement with either self-catering (full household staff and cook in residence) or fully catered options. Prynnsberg Manor takes a maximum of 20 adults in accommodation ranging from the spectacular (see the Boudoir) to the unusual (when last did you sleep on an upstairs veranda with the Southern Cross as your ceiling?), to the 'work in progress' ("mind that gilded ceiling doesn't come down in the night"). Described in architectural circles as 'The Jewel of the Eastern Free State', Prynnsberg Manor boasts a billiard room / ballroom once described by Stephan Weltz of Sotheby's as "the most beautiful room in South Africa, an outdoor cinema, a Victorian bath house (the Manor was built before en-suite bathrooms became the norm) and magnificent gardens with two swimming pools. The estate at large covers over 1,200 hectares of beautiful Eastern Free State countryside. Arran - The Game Keepers Lodge:  Arran - sleeping a max of four adults - nestles up against the mountain above the Manor house and enjoys spectacular views. Arran is fully renovated and exceedingly well appointed. Prynnsberg is ideal for classic country house weekends with family and friends, corporate or creative retreats and workshops.
