'I believe that South Africa is the most beautiful place on earth. Admittedly, I am biased, but when you combine the natural beauty of South Africa with the friendliness and cultural diversity of our people, and the fact that the region is a haven for Africa's most splendid wildlife, then I think even the most scrupulous critic would agree that we have been blessed with a truly wonderful land. I would like to extend a personal invitation to you to come and see for yourself the splendour of South Africa. I know that my people will be delighted to welcome you and I think you will be enchanted by their warmth and hospitality. I am equally sure that you will enjoy our culture, our cuisine and the warmth of our people'.
Nelson Mandela - humanitarian AIDS campaigner and previous President of South Africa (1994-1999)

South Africa is an awesome holiday destination with so much to do you'll be spoiled for choice. South Africa is internationally renowned as one of the world's top game viewing and birding destinations, but it also has some of the world's best flowers, which can be seen to great advantage, particularly in the Western Cape where the indigenous fynbos forms part of the Cape Floral Region, which is a world heritage site.

As if that's not enough, South Africa also has 3,000 km coastline with fabulous beaches and water sports, and great dolphin and whale watching.

South Africa has some fantastic cultural and historical attractions. It's widely accepted to be the birthplace of the human race, so you can explore your roots here and ponder on the meaning of life. You could also visit historical battlefields, fabulous rock art sites and interesting monuments relating to the history of South Africa and the struggle against apartheid.
But it's not all about the past - ancient buildings and dusty museums - it's the people that make South Africa really special. You can spend weeks doing nothing but visiting interesting communities, doing contemporary cultural tours and perhaps spending a few nights as a guest in a township home stay or in a rural village.

For the more physically active, there are loads of golf courses, and an awesome array of adventure activities ranging from mild to wild, serene to extreme, or tame to insane.

But if you'd rather be pampered than pumped up, you can retreat to one of hundreds of wellness centres or spas and be pummelled, plucked and preened to your heart's content. Or you can forget the body beautiful brigade and take a real holiday, indulging in fabulous food and wine and - occasionally - working on your sun tan. It's a hard choice.

Town of Cape Winelands

The people in Tulbagh surely know the meaning of humanity. They made us feel welcome and were very helpfull and friendly. A place where there is so many things to see and do. If I must say, Drostdy Hof, was amazing, the museum was very interesting, wine tasting, excellent. Juat a pity, so many South Africans don't value or find interest in visiting the jewels of our country. I would recommend Tulbagh for an amazing experience.

Please support the restoration initiatives
This should be one of South Africas treasures, ideally situated, rich in history and with enormous potential! The community is trying to work on restoring and improving the town. Give them all the support you can. We should not allow the place to decay.

Rest for your soul
This is one place in South Africa where I manage to find complete peace of mind. You can walk on the beach or just go sit on the rocks and watch the sun set in the west while you listen to the breaking waves.

St Lucia
Town of Zululand

St Lucia is a quaint little town with awesome wildlife and beautiful scenery. The drive to Cape Vidal offers experiences to see some of South Africa's wildlife and the estuary and river was great to view hippos and crocodiles. Cape Vidal was beautiful with great weather and comfortable water temperatures. Waves and currents are strong and unpredictable so if snorkelling or swimming care should be taken. The town is well has enough stores and restaurants all in the main road so if staying anywhere in St Lucia it will never be a long way off. Will definitely go back

Tzaneen and it's surrounding areas are truly one of the most beautiful places in South Africa. First time visit and loved the area
It is truly a beautiful place to be. Close enuff to escape the bustle of city but still be able to get there if needed. Loved the ease with which we could get around. The views towards the mountain and across Cape Town town is truly magnificent. If I ever decide to move back to South Africa, this will be the place I'll be looking at settling.

City of Amatola

How Disappointing
This town could quite easily be the Riviera of South Africa. Nobody however seems to have the vision. The Quigney area if developed would rival Cape Town's most illustrious seafront. The beaches are the best in South Africa. I spent quite some time there in December. Cleanliness, pot-holed streets & dirty sidewalks seem to be a big problem. The hordes of people who flock to the beaches on Xmas and New Year really add to it's already overflowing rubbish strewn streets. It really marred our holiday. One does not want to live in a suburb away from the beach when on a seaside holiday. Hope the...
