'I believe that South Africa is the most beautiful place on earth. Admittedly, I am biased, but when you combine the natural beauty of South Africa with the friendliness and cultural diversity of our people, and the fact that the region is a haven for Africa's most splendid wildlife, then I think even the most scrupulous critic would agree that we have been blessed with a truly wonderful land. I would like to extend a personal invitation to you to come and see for yourself the splendour of South Africa. I know that my people will be delighted to welcome you and I think you will be enchanted by their warmth and hospitality. I am equally sure that you will enjoy our culture, our cuisine and the warmth of our people'.
Nelson Mandela - humanitarian AIDS campaigner and previous President of South Africa (1994-1999)

South Africa is an awesome holiday destination with so much to do you'll be spoiled for choice. South Africa is internationally renowned as one of the world's top game viewing and birding destinations, but it also has some of the world's best flowers, which can be seen to great advantage, particularly in the Western Cape where the indigenous fynbos forms part of the Cape Floral Region, which is a world heritage site.

As if that's not enough, South Africa also has 3,000 km coastline with fabulous beaches and water sports, and great dolphin and whale watching.

South Africa has some fantastic cultural and historical attractions. It's widely accepted to be the birthplace of the human race, so you can explore your roots here and ponder on the meaning of life. You could also visit historical battlefields, fabulous rock art sites and interesting monuments relating to the history of South Africa and the struggle against apartheid.
But it's not all about the past - ancient buildings and dusty museums - it's the people that make South Africa really special. You can spend weeks doing nothing but visiting interesting communities, doing contemporary cultural tours and perhaps spending a few nights as a guest in a township home stay or in a rural village.

For the more physically active, there are loads of golf courses, and an awesome array of adventure activities ranging from mild to wild, serene to extreme, or tame to insane.

But if you'd rather be pampered than pumped up, you can retreat to one of hundreds of wellness centres or spas and be pummelled, plucked and preened to your heart's content. Or you can forget the body beautiful brigade and take a real holiday, indulging in fabulous food and wine and - occasionally - working on your sun tan. It's a hard choice.

Wilderness Wilderness
Town of Western Cape

Wilderness as a destination
The so called 'Garden Route' basically stretches from Cape Town to Plettenberg Bay. But for us as a family it is the portion between Mossel Bay and Plettenberg Bay. Wilderness is the ideal central base from where to explore this portion of the Garden Route. The scenery is fantastic. Lots of good eateries close by. Much history. Even a large mall and airport within 20 minutes. Art. Honest warm earthy people. Lots of markets over weekends. This really is Eden; the paradise of South Africa. You will not find better vistas of sea and mountains anywhere. There is no such thing as 'bad weather' here...

This beach town is the perfect holiday destination. It stretches on both sides of the Goukou River estuary where it meets the Indian Ocean on the Southern Cape Coast of South Africa. The clean extensive sandy beaches and the navigable river are really a joy.

Charles & Kathrine Musil's stay in Sutherland
A visit to the South African Astronomical Observatory to view the local and international astronomical facilities as well as the South African Large Telescope (SALT) was a both educating and interesting, The astronomical presentation and star gazing through 5 x 14 inch satellite linked GPS Celestron telescopes provided at the privately owned Sterland was amazing. The high powered laser used to point out the major stars, constellations and planets in the night sky was of a standard superior to that we have encountered any where in the world.

Amazing Yzerfontein
Best place to visit in South Africa. Very safe and clean town and close to everything to explore.Eventhough an hour's drive away from Cape Town- roads are in excellent conditions and easy to travel to and from Cape Town and towns like Stellenbosch, Franschoek and Paarl. So many places to visit- 2 weeks were not long enough. We liked Yzerfontein so much we are now in the process to buy a property there. You could see Table mountain from Pearlbay in Yzerfontein. Beach are beautiful long sandy beaches and you could walk miles along the coast. Very affluent area. You will not be dissapointed.

Nice rural setting
Nice rural setting, though it came as a shock. It gave us a chance to experience rural South African life. The people we met were generally friendly. Accessible by tarred road from Mahikeng. We did not see any shops in the area and had to do all our shopping in Mahikeng which is about 23km from Tsetse. It is close to the game reserve, though we were unable to visit the game reserve because of our tight schedule.

Peace and rest
Hondeklipbaai offers you true peace and rest. There is not much to do, but then again if you're traveling along the West coast of South Africa your probably not looking for a lot of activity anyway. During our stay we visited the lighthouse, went for a long walk along the beach and visited the wreck of the Aristea. We also stopped at the Hondeklip after which the bay was named, walked through the old graveyard that has graves dating back to the mid 1800's and watched the waves crash against the spitfirerock. We went for dinner at the Rooispinnekop Restaurant and had a seafood platter for 2,...

A Very Warm Welcome at Bay View Lodge
When you are away from home, travelling a foreign country it is so important to have a positive first impression of a place that is new to you. We checked in at Bay View Lodge over two weeks ago and we were overwhelmed by the friendly and warm welcome by the owner, Monica and her staff ! They all truly gifted us "a home away from home"!We had booked the Premier Suite - a spacious apartment with room for a large family, with a beautiful wintergarden with a view of the Indian Ocean, a table to have meals in privacy, fridge, water maker, and a comfortable lounge area..Bay View Lodge is a place...

Jeffreys Bay is one of the most popular coastal holiday destinations in South Africa and by far one of the most beautiful coastal towns. It is also one of the best and most attractive tourism attractions in the area. Jeffreys Bay is also central to a lot of other attractions in the Eastern Cape.

Highest Railway Station
We could not find the railway station that is suppose to be the highest in South Africa. The building looked like it was used as a school and the gate was locked with a chain. We were very disappointed as this is written on all the websites of Dullstroom as one of the best kept secrets and attractions of the town.
