Busy little town
Clarens has established itself as a weekend hideaway for city dwellers. There are plenty of shops selling all sorts of arts and crafts, clothing, paintings, body and bath products. There are also plenty of choice when it comes to breakfast, lunch and dinner - the restaurants and pubs are excellent and cater for all tastes. There are also plenty to do except browsing the shops - hiking trails starting in town, or in Golden Gate and a number of other outdoor activities will keep you busy for a whole week.
Clarens as a family destination.
Clarens is well known for its lovely shops and great restaurants, but traveling with young children makes these things less attractive. Instead we looked outside of the town for entertainment, where we discovered horse riding, quad biking, rock climbing, and the fascinating dinosaur tour. The more time we spent discovering the area, and the fascinating landscape, the more we enjoyed it.
Art and shops
The art was lovely but not ideal when travelling with children. I noticed on are last day that there are loads of walks from Clarens, you don't have to go down to Golden Gate, those need to be advertised more. Very busy little town - lots of JHB people, so not the slow town I was expecting.Highlands Coffee - fantastic, and very friendly folk, not to mention the only place open at 7:30am!
Clarens is overrated. They sel chunk for lots of money. Poor services at the restaurants. Some shops do have quality, but is overprised. Miljenairs place ,where they give their children lots of money to spend ,while they go someplace else to rest. Can not commend on the outside activities like horse riding etc.
Love birds weekend away
Clarens is a beautiful town. People from all around and different age categories, get to know each other in the two local bars. We are so many new friends richer after our cold winter weekend away. The scenery from town onto the mountains is breathtaking! The local shops is filled with beautiful things and not overpriced. We enjoyed the German restaurant the most and breakfast was great at the Suger & Cinnamon restaurant outside town towards the Golden Gates. Over all a weekend visit is long enough because there is not much to do unless you are looking for extreme adventure, which summer...see more
