Sutherland Sutherland
Town of Namaqualand

Great small town to visit any time of the year
Sutherland is known as being the coldest place in South Africa but can be very hot during the day in summer. Peaceful vistas, no air or light pollution and a rural feel bring back the longings for a time gone by. Local sheep graze in fields adjacent to the lower town. whilst a wide Main road and a very historical church make Sutherland a sleepy Karoo town. The proximity of SALT and the excellent tours they offer bring in many visitors each year.

Colesberg Colesberg
Town of Upper Karoo

Ideal stopover for travelers to the Cape
We used Colesburg as our stopover travelling from Johannesburg to George and then returning to Lydenburg. The journey through the magnificent scenery of the Karoo was breathtaking. Words are inadequate to describe the beauty of this part of South Africa.

Lydenburg Lydenburg
Town of Highlands Meander

The best!
This is one of the best destinations one can think of, but the problem is the potholes and the fog, but all in all the place is the most wonderful in South Africa.

Vryheid Vryheid
Town of Zululand

Lack of signposts for places of interest
We used Vryheid as a stop over on our way home from Kruger National Park (4 - 6 Jan 2014). Our sole purpose was to visit the Battle fields in the area. We were disappointed to see the lack of interest in signposts to these various sites. Some signs were the old brown colour which were faded or the lettering had peeled off (one Nkambula sign). Some sites one couldn't even get to - no path or road in particular Scheepersnek along the R33. The entrance to Blood River was appalling - poorly sign posted. In fact we stopped to ask a local if we were on the right road. 21km on dirt road, which could...

Coffee Bay is a must see destination! This was my first time in South Africa and I am so grateful that my husband put Coffee Bay on the list of must see places! Next time there we are staying longer! The views left me speechless!
