Notts Cottage is a luxury self-catering two-bedroom cottage situated on a secure estate in Nottingham Road, KwaZulu-Natal. Nottingham Road is a village easily accessed from the N3 between Johannesburg and Durban, only 20 minutes from the foothills of the Drakensberg. The landscape is beautiful, with green rolling hills, dotted with fly-fishing dams. Nottingham Road is also in the heart of the Midlands Meander route with its mix of arts and crafts and restaurants. The cottage can sleep up to four guests and comprises two bedrooms and an open-plan, lounge dining room and kitchen. A choice of king-size or single beds in both bedrooms, all luxury extra length beds. The main en-suite is a full bathroom and the second en-suite with shower. Ceiling fans are fitted in both bedrooms. The open-plan lounge and dining area is air-conditioned and features a TV with full DStv coverage, and a DVD player. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering and includes a stove and oven, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, kettle and all the necessary kitchen utensils. Wi-Fi internet access is available on request. A lock-up garage is provided for one vehicle, and ample parking space is provided for your visitors. Notts Cottage is heated with heated towel rails, wall heaters and under-floor heating in the winter. The patio features gas and wood burning barbecue facilities and offers the most wonderful view over the farmlands to Giant's Castle and the Central Drakensberg Mountains.

We are one and a half hours from Durban and four hours from Johannesburg. The buildings are a renovation created out of the original 1860s farmyard. Every suite is individually designed and themed with under floor heating in the bed and bathrooms, private verandas and there are huge gardens leading down to lake. We also have a charismatic restaurant, which stocks interesting wines and has a separate cigar lounge. The spa was awarded 'South Africa's Best Destination Spa 2006'. Guests staying at Fordoun have free use of the heated pool, saline floatation pool, sauna, steam rooms and gym. Guests requiring specific spa treatments must book these at least a week in advance of the date of arrival. Fordoun is famed for our traditional healing plant garden, which has 140 varieties of healing plants and a resident Sangoma, Dr Elliot Ndlovu.

We have four freestanding newly built thatched cottages: Chelsea, The Great Western, Ikhwela and Copper, each with a private balcony overlooking the Lions River. Each cottage is for two people and has an en suite bathroom with its own jacuzzi spa bath. Each self-catering cottage comes with a fully equipped kitchen including microwave, two plate stove, fridge/freezer, toaster, and Weber braai. There is also a dining and lounge area, table and chairs on the balcony as well as queen sized double bed and private carport. For cold nights all cottages have an electric fire and electric blanket with goose down duvets. All utensils, crockery and glasses are included and all linen and towels are supplied. Every cottage also comes with a welcome pack including tea, coffee, sugar, milk and delicious homemade biscuits. The decks are not wooden. We are 5 km away from the Midlands Meander where there are exciting activities for kids, restaurants, Beauty spas and lots of wonderful arts and craft shops. There are two golf courses in the area and we are about an hour’s drive away from Giants Castle where day visitors can book a day there and do a small hike to see the well preserved Bushmen paintings. We are also about half an hour away from the Karkloof canopy tours in Howick. There are lots of places to go fishing as well. Guests can enjoy activities such as bird watching, fishing, or simply just delighting in nature walks around the meander. Guests can then enjoy a delicious braai on the deck while appreciating a stunning sunset.

All the units are fully equipped for self-catering and we provide cutlery and crockery. The views stretch over the dam and countryside, offering complete privacy. Braai facilities are also available at each unit. The farm mainly offers fishing on a catch and release basis. Rod fees are applicable and day visitors are welcome. We sell flies and guides are available for coaching at an additional fee. Our fee to trout/bass fish is R175 per angler per day, or part thereof.

Gowrie Farm Golf and Fly-Fishing Estate is set in Nottingham Road, in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands and within the context of a working farm.  The estate is surrounded by a choice of well-stocked trout dams, lush bush and kikuyu pastures.  This tranquil setting is a guaranteed antidote to city stress.     The golf course, developed by Guy Smith, has been built in the classic style, with tees close to the ground, gently undulating fairways and push-up greens.  The course has the feel of an inland links course and, while it is testing for the good players, it is also enjoyable for the average golfer.  It is a par 70, 9-hole course, which has two additional holes.  As a result, this gives the course variety and interest and the golfer has the feel of playing an 18 hole rather than a 9 hole.    The magnificent stone Clubhouse boasts five luxury, 4 star double rooms all overlooking the lake and golf course.  These are run on a bed and breakfast basis.  Lunches are served at Halfway House; evening meals may be enjoyed at the local restaurants, of which there are several within 5 kilometers of Gowrie Farm.   Overlooking the 6th green is the Old Tom Morris Cottage which is ideal accommodation for 2 four balls.  Old Tom Morris Cottage has four bedrooms, all en-suite, as well as an open-plan lounge, dining room and kitchen area with beautiful views over the golf course and Clubhouse.  This is run as self-catering, luxury accommodation.   Being nestled within the heart of South Africa’s premier arts and crafts routes of the Midlands Meander, Gowrie Farm offers a plethora of activities for those looking for somewhere to while away the time.   Visitors who relish the idea of the relaxation and pampering that only a Health Spa can bring, there is also a choice of quality Spas available within close proximity.    For the outdoor enthusiast, Nottingham Road offers wonderful cycling with quiet roads out in the Camberg, Loteni and Dargle valleys.  There are also a number of mountain bike routes and wonderful hiking trails in the nearby foothills of the Drakensberg.  For keen birders, over 200 birds have been identified on Gowrie Farm itself.    Situated alongside the golf course is Gowrie Village.
