Set in lush, green and shady gardens, The Copper Kettle provides visitors with everything they need in one place. The light and airy bedrooms are furnished with an understated elegance and great attention has been paid to the smaller details. King-size beds are made up with crisp linen and each room has a stylish en-suite bathroom. A clever use of space offers visitors countless places to curl up and read a book, meet other people or just unwind. There are covered garden swings, a small bar, shaded patio and an attractive lounge with seductive sofas and a tempting fireplace. Meals are served in a central dining room with an open-plan design. The lodge offers a feeling of the outdoors merging seamlessly with the indoors as French windows swing open to allow the gentle sounds of water sprinklers and birdsong to fill the rooms. With accommodation for only eight guests, there is an intimate feeling to the place and enough time is afforded to tend to the needs of the individual. A full farmhouse breakfast is available in the morning.

Sun Cottage is a charming thatched cottage nestled in the farmlands of the Eastern Free State Highlands and overlooking the majestic Maluti Mountains. It is situated on a working organic farm. Sun Cottage is quiet and peaceful, and it is set in its own secluded garden. We will show you around the farm and explain the concepts of organic farming with garlic, sheep, pigs, chickens, earthworms and bees. The cottage has spectacular, ever-changing views of the mountains and it is self-catering with a fully-equipped kitchen. There is a cosy fireplace in the open-plan living room and you can relax and enjoy the scenic braai area. We are a short and spectacular drive from Clarens and Golden Gate. Lesotho and the ski slopes are also close by. There are lots of things to do and see in the area and we will gladly help you organise your activities.

Mamma Fourie’s offers three fully equipped, self-catering units which ooverlooking orchards and Ventersberg the highest mountain in the area. In contrast with all of the dirt roads in town, the path leading to Mama Fourie's is lawned and it ensures a soft landing. We offer our beautifully decorated units with unusual enamel fittings, natural stained cement floors, white bed linen, towels and Sechweshwe fabrics. The self-catering units have either twin beds or king-size beds and en-suite bathrooms. The open-plan kitchens are fully equipped and they lead into open-plan living areas with wooden dining tables and lounges. Each cottage has braai facilities and safe off-street parking. Rooms are heated by wall panels and all the beds have electric blankets in winter or hot water bottles for the kids. If clients prefer being catered for, we have an old Thames and Ford bus that have been restored and changed into a kitchen and dining area. By doing so, we are now able to offer self-catering and B&B facilities. We offer a Jukskei course and an outdoor chess board.

Camelroc is situated between the two Caledon rivers and is close to Caledonspoort border post. Camelroc can definately be recommended as a good base from which to explore the Eastern Free State as well as Lesotho. For those who prefer to stay at base and relax, one can opt to take walks into the mountain, have a swim in the pool and braai beside the cottage whilst enjoying the serenity and splendour of this Eastern Free State countryside. There are diverse activities to be enjoyed and places to discover in the area. Camelroc has five chalets that are fully furnished and well equipped to self cater: Two cosy open plan chalets sleeping 2 to 3 two 2-bedroomed chalets, sleeps 4 in beds, plus 2 on a sleeper couch in the lounge one 3-bedroom 8 sleeper one 4-bedroom 8 sleeper In the main homestead one can be accommodated in the guest house, three rooms sleeping 6 are all en-suite and tastefully decorated with Oregon pine furnishings. Meals can be arranged on request. Guests are welcome to enjoy the use of the thatched entertainment area around the pool or play table tennis on the patio. There is a netball ring in the garden and ample space to play ball games and volley ball. The Guesthouse, built from traditional sandstone, has a fireplace in the lounge. All the bedrooms have heaters and electric blankets for the cold winter nights. The perfect halfway stop between the Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Come and enjoy this country stay with its beautiful views of the countryside, bird life, small game, rock art and the Poplar tree's turning in Autumn.

Dutch owners, Mark and Anna Mari, named the farm 'Mont Plaisir', which means 'Pleasure Mountain'. Fouriesburg is situated in the Brandwater Basin, south of Bethlehem, and offers you the fantastic scenery of the Red Mountains, the White Mountains, the Maluti Mountains, the splendid Golden Gate National Park and many historic sites from the Anglo-Boer War. Set in lovely gardens, the cottage used to be stables of the old pastorie and has since been renovated. The bedroom is furnished with a double bed and has a private bathroom with a shower only. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering and guests can relax in the comfortable lounge which is furnished with a sleeper couch and a single bed for children and is also equipped with a TV. For an extra room, the pastor’s former office on the stoep of the pastorie has been furnished with a double bed and has an en-suite bathroom with a shower only. The room has a TV and is situated 10 m from the Ou Stal. A breakfast basket is available on request at an additional cost and braai facilities as well as secure off-street parking is available. The Boesmanskrans hiking trail is one of several beautiful trails in and around Fouriesburg, while Meiringskloof is a beautiful little nature reserve quite close to Fouriesburg which offers some pretty picnic spots and is also the departure point for the Brandwater hiking trail. Please note that breakfast is available on request at an extra cost for R40 per person.

The Rose House is located on a 580-hectare farm outside of Fouriesburg. The farm has been renovated to its former glory with a new vineyard. There are five different cottages on the farm that provide either bed and breakfast or self-catering accommodation. The Garden Cottages have either queen-size beds or twin beds. The bathrooms are en-suite with baths and showers. The cottages have living rooms with inviting fireplaces for the colder days. The Vegetable Garden Fatlet has a queen-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with a shower. It overlooks the vegetable garden that provides the produce for the café and small farm shop. The two Barn Units each have two en-suite bedrooms. The units have fireplaces for the winter months as well as panel heaters. There is a kitchen for self-catering and a dining area where guests can enjoy their meals. The units also feature verandas with braai facilities. The Rose Hip Café is established in a renovated barn on the farm and offers a light lunch menu from Tuesday to Sunday. This is a great option for those who would prefer not to cook or travel for some of the time. As there are no TVs, guests are able to relax and unwind and partake in walking, cycling or running, without the interruption of the world. The surrounding mountains are perfect for hiking during the daytime.

The Arpa Farmhouse has four bedrooms and two bathrooms with one bath and two showers; the warm water is supplied by a donkey boiler. There is no electricity and the lights inside are generated from heavy duty batteries. The units have a small gas fridge and a gas stove and plenty of wood for campfires, but bring charcoal for braais. You will need to bring your own bedding and it is always cooler at night and bitterly cold in winter. There is a Jetmaster fireplace and a farm stove for cold winter nights. There is a big lapa next to the dam with a coal stove; the dam is 50 m from the farmhouse. The dam is a great stop for fishing as there is plenty of bass and a great three kilometre hike along the river or a hike along the koppie for the best view of the surrounding land and hills. Bring your binoculars as there are plenty of birdwatching opportunities. Firewood is free for boma fires; Sylvester makes fires and wash the dishes. The entire farm can be booked out and is ideal for birthday parties or weddings at a fixed rate. Please enquire about the rate. Catering can be supplied (spitbraai,potjie and breakfast) and please note you need to bring your own bedding. Special rates for groups for more than nine adults. If your group is larger than five people no other group will be allowed on the farm. There are various activities on the farm such as fishing for bass and carp, rowing on the Arpa dam in two arc boats, riding on tubes on the river, sleeping on the Helpmekaar koppie in tents and experiencing the Free State in all its glory, and swimming in the dam, river or in the Arpa cement dam Jacuzzi. You can also enjoy a river picnic under the shade of large poplar trees with the sound of eagles nesting in the trees. Hike on the farm or walk to the mountains and hollow caves, or ride your mountain bike on a 27 km dirt road or your road bike to Clarens which is 26 km from Arpa. Guests can visit Lesotho as the border is only 12 km from Arpa and make a boma fire and "kuier" into the small hours of the night, no need to worry about neighbours. There is a generator on Arpa for light and to charge cellphones. The 700-litre donkey makes hot water for everybody and you can drink water out of Arpa's fountain. At Arpa we care about the environment and we expect our guests to do the same.
