Wolseley Travel Guide

Mooiplaas river cottage, Wolseley - Wolseley was a great & unexpected surprise for us. The night was exceptionally quiet & peaceful with only the sounds of nature to listen to. Here we could also admire the stars which was brilliantly clear & the reason for our visit. Even though the drive was a bit long - not to mention the gravel roads we struggled on, the destination was well worth all that effort.

Wolseley - Where’s Wolseley, I hear you say? That is just it! – the best kept secret in the whole of the Witzenberg! You will be so pleasantly rewarded when you decide to take “the road less traveled” and discover and experience the wonderful surprises that await you in Wolseley and surrounds. This little rail town forms a link between Ceres and Tulbagh and is best positioned to enjoy all the wonderful gems that these areas have to offer. The area of Wolseley itself boasts its own fabulous wedding venues, local organic wines, sumptuous restaurants, walking trails, mountain biking and a historical Anglo Boer War Blockhouse dating back to 1901. You can be accommodated in some of the exclusive, original or comfortably rustic establishments in the area which are surrounded by fruit orchards, blossom in spring and majestic mountains, snow capped in winter and on sparkling tranquil rivers. Wolseley is situated on a natural watershed that divides the Berg River (renowned for the annual Berg River Marathon) and the Breede River (one of the largest navigable rivers in South Africa). Within the 20 min you can enjoy the exciting ziplines adventures which are the longest in Africa and golf on a beautiful course in Ceres or the earthquake history in Tulbagh along with a number of renowned wineries, chocolatiers, arts and crafts shops and a theatre. Come and experience the stunningly beautiful scenery, warm personalities, good food, wine and hospitality in the Wolseley area. Who knows you might never want to go home again and never again will you say “Where’s Wolseley?”. You might want to keep it a secret though.
