The lodge is owned and managed by Leon, Rita and Leorita Groenewald and offers the discerning traveller homely and comfortable en-suite accommodation.

We offer eight en-suite rooms, a dining hall and bar, off-street parking near the rooms, a salt water swimming pool, beautiful natural scenery and an invigorating hiking trail. Each of De Poort’s rooms was named after the wild animals that can be found in the area and every room is decorated individually to enhance the atmosphere of a traditional guest home.

By prior arrangement, home cooked meals are served South African-style and by lamplight. We specialize in delicious ostrich fillets and traditional Karoo lamb. A sustainable full English breakfast is served every day to provide our guests with energy for their daily activities.

Come and experience our Klein Karoo hospitality, fresh air, sparkling mountain water and incredible stargazing. We are ideally situated for bird watching and enjoying the unusual plants and succulents of the Little Karoo. Oudtshoorn is the gem of the Klein Karoo - an ancient rolling plain between the Outeniqua and Swartberg mountains. The town is enclosed by mountains, which means that every road into the area is a pass. This affords the traveller with breathtaking scenes of unspoiled nature.

Oudtshoorn is also a tourist hotspot; en route to De Poort Country Lodge on the R328 you will have the opportunity to visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch, Cango Ostrich Farm, Rust en Vrede Waterfall, Wilgewandel and of course the world-famous Cango Caves. Take the Swartberg Mountain Pass to Prince Albert and Gamkaskloof, and do the round trip through Meiringspoort and De Rust. Drive one of the many gravel back roads with amazing mountain and nature views. In Oudtshoorn itself, visit a number of curio shops, historic ostrich palaces, the C.P. Nel Museum, C.J. Langenhoven's house and the suspension bridge spanning the Grobelaars River. There are also a number of wine farms in the area.

This sunny double storey Lodge is situated on large garden grounds, bordered by the riverside and horse paddocks. Here you can experience the feeling of wide open spaces, while still having luxurious, stylish accommodation with easy accessibility to local attractions.

The lodge is uniquely decorated -all rooms are adorned by masterpieces of the internationally renowned artist Thijs Nel, an inhabitant of this arty town. Sleep soundly in their ethereal aura!

We offer guests a choice of five light filled bedrooms, three with en-suite bathrooms. Each with satellite TV, free Wi-Fi access and air conditioners. All but one room leads onto a balcony…with views of the Swartberg range, or the paddocks. Tea and coffee making facilities are available upstairs.

A light continental or home cooked English breakfast is prepared for our guests on request.

Die Kliphuisies offers guests a choice of staying in one of the lovely Cottages or in the camp site. Although self-catering, meals are available on request for guests staying in the Cottages. The Stone Cottage is ideal for a group or family of five and does not have electricity, but solar energy provides power for the geyser and lights. The cottage is furnished with a double and a single, bed as well as a sleeper couch. A large en-suite bathroom with shower only is shared. The kitchenette is equipped with a gas fridge-freezer, a gas stove and cutlery and crockery. Guests can relax on the private stoep which has a built-in fireplace and offers lovely views off the surrounds. The Cottage is furnished with a comfortable double bed and has an en-suite bathroom with a shower only. It does not have electricity but solar energy provides power for the geyser and lights. Braai facilities are available on request.

The Camp Sites offers campers the opportunity to pitch their own tent or bring their caravan and enjoy the fresh air. No electricity is available and guests have to make use the bathrooms in the main house. Wood and braai packs are also available for all units on request.

Being up in the foothills of the mountains means that we experience weather that is milder than Oudtshoorn; it is never either as cold or as hot as the town. In winter, frost is a rare occurrence and the summer nights are always blessed with a cool breeze. We are just 20 km from the main N12 from Beaufort West to Oudtshoorn on a very good gravel road and just 40 km from Oudtshoorn itself. The farm offers a place to relax, unwind and get away from it all, or can serve as a wonderful springboard for exploring the area.

Lucern for animal feed and rose geranium for the essential oil industry are the focus of the farming side of Rolbaken, whilst the largest part of the farm is on the verge of being declared a nature reserve. Dick is working towards starting a breeding program for the endangered Cape mountain zebra of the Kammanassie Nature Reserve.

Our spacious double and twin rooms are decorated with antiques to create a warm and comfortable atmosphere and the bedrooms offer a variety of accommodation. Children from 4 to 14 are charged at R200 per night in their own room or a supplement if sharing with their parents. Guests can choose to self-cater or may opt for bed and breakfast, or be treated to dinner, bed and breakfast. Meal prices are available on request. The guest house has good cell phone reception but does not have a television. Each room has its own private entrance with a spectacular view of the rolling hills.
