Are you in need of a warm and relaxed getaway in the country. Within an hour from Johannesburg or Pretoria, nestled in the hills of the Magaliesberg, on a private mountain bushveld farm, with stunning views, is Stone Hill.

Perched high above the distant village of Magaliesburg, we offer seven top class, fully-equipped luxurious self-catering timber cottages, accommodating from two to eight guests each. All have open plan lounges with log fireplaces, fully fitted kitchens, bedrooms and full bathrooms. Each is individually fenced for pets and each has a large verandah and braai area.
All the cottages are separate and private and are at least 20 metres from each other. We are family and pet friendly and we welcome all breeds of house trained and socialized dogs. The small splash pool is central and within easy reach and the view down the valley is breathtaking.

Stone Hill facilities are designed and equipped to give you the feeling of home from home and to make your stay that much more comfortable. There are TV’s in all of cottages with selected DStv channels for your entertainment.

The farm supports indigenous small game and birdlife and we have introduced a 5 km walking trail where your dog/s can run unleashed and there are concrete benches for the weary to sit and catch their breath! Please remember to pack water bowls and drinks for the walk!

The Magaliesberg are almost 100 times older than the Himalayas and the area is historically and archaeologically rich. It is here that Mankind originated, in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. Today there is still evidence of Stone Age and Iron Age early man to be found. Stone Hill is only 11 kms from Maropeng Visitor’s Centre and 15 kms from the Sterkfontein Caves.

Over the centuries, many wars have been waged across the hills, the most recent being the Anglo Boer War. At Stone Hill, a site has been found from that period and the pieces are displayed for visitors who may be interested. The collection is dated somewhere between 1899 to1902.

Stone Hill offers privacy, peace and seclusion and it is where your internal clock instinctively slows to the rhythm of the bush. The welcome is warm and the attention is personalised so come and barbeque under the stars and hear the call of the jackals. The perfect escape! Stone Hill is a wonderful cure for stressed city living.

Askari Game Lodge & Spa

Sleeps 52 in 26 rooms

Situated on the Plumari Africa Game Reserve in Magaliesberg, just over an hour from Johannesburg or Pretoria, Askari Game Lodge offers guests a memorable Big 5 wildlife experience within a malaria-free environment.

Plumari Africa Game Reserve is set within a pristine wilderness area of over 4000 hectares with natural African bushveld and an abundance of flora, fauna, birdlife, and wildlife. Two game drives, each approximately two to two and a half hours in duration, are scheduled daily. Elephant experiences include bush walks and interaction with our elephants, which include a touch and feed experience.

The main lodge, which is in fact the old Bodenstein family farmhouse, overlooks the Elephant Dam and invites guests to take a step back in time while admiring South African décor pieces dating back to the 1800’s. Slipper baths, a coal stove, wash stands, luggage chests, antique Oregon cupboards and tables are subtly placed within the luxury 4 Star surrounding, to emphasize the captivating history of the Magaliesberg area.

Askari Game Lodge & Spa has one of the largest private collections of ox wagons, carts and other animal-drawn vehicles from the period 1800 to 1900. A variety of stone and iron-age artefacts, items from the Boer War, and San Bushmen rock carvings tell the history of the area, which is also known for the nearby Battle of Nooitgedacht. Examples are available in the museum and guided bush walks take guests through areas where many stone carvings can be found.

In contrast with the rich Boer and Afrikaner history depicted by the main farmhouse decor, the Day Visitors Centre is abundant with African symbolism, rich earthy colours, and unique African décor focal points. The two contrasting décor themes pay homage to the Afrikaner history while highlighting the significant influence of the indigenous African tribes of the area.

Askari Game Lodge & Spa caters for romantic getaways, conferences, team building initiatives, training courses, and weddings in both the main lodge and Day Visitors Centre. Nature lovers and birding enthusiasts will find the experience most rewarding, while stressed city dwellers will leave feeling rejuvenated and well-rested.

Located in the heart of the lodge, the spa complex boasts with an individual treatment room, a couples room with a double outdoor shower and a couples hydrotherapy bath. Separate men's and ladies change rooms each with a unique steam room which opens into one.

The entire spa opens up on outdoor relaxation areas and private gardens. Numerous pathways throughout the beautiful surrounding gardens allow for leisurely walks pre- and post-treatment. The spa also incorporates a Pedicure and Manicure Lounge, juice Bar, swimming pool with day beds and a retail area.

Our core philosophy of natural health is based on nurture, inspiration and the use of mother Earth's ingredients, to provide you with the most invigorating treatments imaginable. For centuries, African women have utilized natural herbal concoctions, creams and oils to enhance natural beauty and to maintain health. Found on our reserve the Wild Olive Tree, Artemisia Afra (Wormwood) and Aloe Vera have been well known for centuries for its healing properties.

We now combine both ancient and contemporary techniques in a natural manner, designed to bring balance and harmony to cater to the needs of every Individual. Soothe away the stress of modern life and dissolve impurities, under the gentle fingers of our therapists. The benefits to body and spirit will be truly rewarding.

    Magaliesburg South Africa

    Magaliesburg Bed and Breakfast Accommodation

The Magaliesberg is a beautiful low range of hills not far from the city of Johannesburg and close to the town of Magaliesburg. Note the spelling. Magaliesburg is the town, Magaliesberg is the range. But, hey, what’s in a name? Magaliesberg is a fun little centre with a very countrified feel to it and loads of bucolic pleasures. Pick up a copy of the Magalies Meander map. It’s a snazzy little marketing initiative that has linked together loads of fun products such as guest houses, museums, craft shops, restaurants and attractions as varied as South Africa’s first gold mine, a hot air balloon trip, spas and wellness centres, and a cheese factory. It’s also really close to the fascinating Cradle of Humankind.

Now the Magaliesberg is even more inviting. Although not very high, it’s a beautiful range with lovely flora, some small game and loads of beautiful streams, pools and waterfalls. It’s a real escape from the frenetic urban conurbations of Pretoria and Johannesburg, and it’s hard to believe it’s so close. The hiking is legendary, there are some fun kloofing trips and some good climbing, too. There are horse trails in the area and South Africa’s largest gliding club is situated nearby.

The Magaliesberg is a beautiful low range of hills not far from the city of Johannesburg and close to the town of Magaliesburg. Note the spelling. Magaliesburg is the town, Magaliesberg is the range. But, hey, what’s in a name? Magaliesberg is a...
