Ivory Lodge is a small intimate lodge featuring nine luxurious suites set on elevated platforms among the indigenous flora of Hwange Game Park Deep, in the mystical teak forests of Hwange is this unobtrusive camp, bathed in the tales of pioneering hunters and explorers. Lumbering giants drift around your stilted platforms, their tusks glinting in salute to the sanctuary of shade offered up by these massive trees.

This is Ivory Lodge, place of elephants. It is here that great herds of elephants are found, sometimes over 100 strong. It is also here that the famous presidential herd drinks. Hwange is famous for its huge tuskers, big old bulls with magnificent tusks. The elephants move in seasonal migration from Botswana's dense feeding areas, to Hwange Game Park where they find refuge from the scorching heat at Ivory's waterhole.

Silently and elegantly, the lodge stands over the waterhole - watch by floodlight under a star-spangled African night sky - the elephants in their play-fighting with their display of instinctive rituals, their caressing and murmurings, all which speak of years gone by.

“Driving you Wild”, our in-house safari connection, is our means of transport to and from Vistoria Falls and Bulawayo and Camp Amalinda. Quotations are available on request on our 14-seater Toyota Quantum fully air-conditioned bus. To view our other accommodation, Camp Amalinda, go to www.safarinow.com/go/campamalinda.

Hwange National Park is the largest park in Zimbabwe, covering an area of approximately 14 650 square kilometres. Named after a local chief, Hwange is situated in the northwest corner of the country approximately one hour south of the mighty Victoria Falls. Because of its close proximity to Victoria Falls, Hwange boasts an incredible biodiversity of flora and fauna, and a plethora of African wildlife. There are over 100 species of mammals and nearly 400 bird species recorded in Hwange National Park. Specifically, the elephant population in Hwange is world famous, as it is one of the largest in the world.

The camp comprised eight tented chalets, all with double or twin beds surrounded by mosquito netting, and with an en-suite bathroom with a bath and basin, and an outside shower. The Elephants Eye, Hwange can host a maximum of 16 people at any given time and all meals and most drinks are included.

Tailormade Safaris- Hwange

Sleeps 8 in 4 rooms

Tailormade Safaris- Hwange offers mobile tented accommodation for a minimum of two to a maximum of...
Tailormade Safaris- Hwange offers mobile tented accommodation for a minimum of two to a maximum of 12 guests. Tailormade Safaris is a small owner-run company that prides itself on Tented Adventures that create tailor-made, once-in-a-lifetime experiences for our guests.

Hwange National Park is the largest wildlife reserve in Zimbabwe, covering a vast 14,000 square kilometres and boasts the second largest diversity of wildlife in Africa.

Accommodation in our tented camps consists of four 3.5 m Meru-style Tents with en-suite showers and toilets. Our beds are wide and comfortable because most of our guests come for extended periods of time to the bush. For example, it is not unusual for our safaris to remain up to eight or 10 nights at one or two locations.

Camp is lit at night by paraffin lanterns. Food is cooked in camp over a campfire and fresh bread baked. Meat, fruit and vegetables are supplied fresh from reliable suppliers and stored in a refrigerator and when required, the camp will be resupplied during the safari.

Mineral water is supplied for drinking and when ice is available, it is made from safe, filtered water. To round up the experience, we also believe in good food and good wines when guests finally come back to camp after having followed an elephant bull for several hours on foot or a pack of wild dogs hunting.

As a way to ensure continuity in interpretation of the wildlife experience and natural surroundings on guests’ journey, we offer the services of private professional guides on safari. Working together with the local guides, camp management and staff, a private guide will make sure that all guests’ needs are met and special interests pursued as far as possible.

Our latest development at Tailormade Safaris is the introduction of tours and transfers around Zimbabwe. We have introduced a small fleet of vehicles that can carry from two to 15 guests for access around all cities in the country and remote bush locations. All our transfer vehicles have internal air-conditioning and a trailer for luggage, leaving our guests with a bit more spacious comfort.

Miombo Safari Camp has the distinction of being the closest quality accommodation to Hwange National Park main gate. The camp is located on a private concession within the eastern border of Hwange National Park, a dedicated nature nirvana that extends westward to link with the Kasane Forest and Chobe region of neighbouring Botswana. This glorious National Park rightfully boasts the highest concentration of wildlife species of any safari region in Africa. At Miombo Safari Camp, discerning safari guests will undoubtedly experience the wonders of the African bush up close and personal, under the watchful and big-hearted hospitality bestowed by the Miombo Safari Camp team.

Hwange National Park has always been heralded as the 'Jewel of Africa for safari experiences and has earned a worldwide reputation for its large herds of resident buffalo, its predators and more especially so, huge numbers of African elephant. On the doorstep of this astonishingly wildlife rich National Park, Miombo Safari Camp is unreservedly one of Zimbabwe’s best-kept secrets.

Miombo Safari Camp offers brand new boutique raised-above-ground-level platforms, atop of which are exquisite luxury safari suites, configured to accommodate two guests in queen-size, double or twin bed configurations. The raised platform guest suites are constructed on top of very strong poles and steel beams, with a sturdy light-coloured wooden floor and double canvas sides with large bug-screen covered windows. The forward-facing folding doors that open out onto the veranda overlooking the waterhole also have large bug-screens and roll-down blinds. In addition to the folding doors, each window in the suite has a roll-down canvas blind that guests can choose whether they have up, secured and open, or down and closed for privacy.

We also offer standard tree houses. These accommodation units are rustic and not of the same standard as the new platform units. Rather, they cater to safari-lovers or folks who are seeking a slightly less luxurious and more rustic bush accommodation. In addition to the raised platform guest suites, there are also classic ground-level thatched roof rondavels, while a large in-ground swimming pool on the sprawling lawn in front of main lodge is there for all of our guests to enjoy.

The Hide Safari Camp is the product of our passion for nature in general, and Hwange National Park in particular. Built in 1992, The Hide Safari Camp has earned its reputation as a consummate safari destination, for both the exceptional wildlife experience and the hospitality it offers.

As our guest, you'll stay in one of 10 beautiful tented suites with views over the waterhole where animals congregate day and night. Between game drives and walks in the national park, there is plenty of time to relax in a comfortable lounge or sit quietly in a hide to watch the wildlife. After meals which are enjoyed together around a giant table or al fresco under the acacia trees, you can spend a lazy afternoon by the plunge pool or in the shade of your verandah.

Since The Hide Safari Camp was sited in one of Hwange National Park’s prime wildlife areas nearly 20 years ago, we have distilled the essence of the safari experience and embellished it with our own distinctive style. Hwange was once the royal hunting ground of Ndebele Kings and has long been known for its abundant and diverse wildlife. In particular, the park is known for herds of elephant and buffalo numbering in the 100s. This is one of the best places to see lion, leopard and African wild dog among the 100 or so other mammal and 400 bird species.

We are passionate about nature; we have built on our superb location and have extensive knowledge of the park with the best expert guides so that you can experience the true wilderness and wildlife Hwange has to offer. Whether on a drive to one of Hwange’s game-rich pans, on foot within our private concession, or sleeping out in The Dove’s Nest, there is never a dull moment. In fact, the waterhole located metres away attracts such a variety of life that you may not need to roam far from your verandah to be a part of the action.

Named after the founder of Hwange National Park and its first warden, Ted Davison, this 18-bedded camp with its nine twin units offers a wonderful bush experience.
