Bonwa Phala is a 5000 hectare nature reserve which offers a pristine, diverse and unique destination in the Bela Bela district of the Limpopo Province. The weather is warm almost all year round and Bonwa Phala is a true home for lovers of nature and the African bush. It is under two hours’ drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria and due to the location of the main lodge it offers absolute privacy.
Although wildlife safaris are our major attraction, Bonwa Phala also offers on-site conferencing, a host of adventure activities and world-class golf excursions at Zebula Golf Estate and Spa, all within ten minutes’ drive of the reserve.
Bonwa Phala exclusive accommodation comprises of a Main Lodge with ten chalets and a Tented Camp with five tents, guaranteeing guests their privacy and solitude.
The Main Lodge's ten open-plan chalets all feature en-suite bathrooms. Guests can choose between double and family size chalets. All chalets have their own patio and are conveniently situated near to the main complex. The thatched, central main complex consists of an indoor dining area, an informal lounge area with DStv, and a cosy covered bar area that opens up onto an intimate open-air, rustic boma. Guests have the option of eating outside at the fire or retreating into the indoor dining area. There is an outdoor pool with a covered shelter next to it for those who love relaxing around the pool but don't want to expose themselves to the sun’s rays for too long.
Early morning and sunset game drives as well as guided bush walks are offered on a daily basis, but must be pre-booked. Detailed information is available on request and bush braais can be organised by prior arrangement.
Resident guests at Bonwa Phala have access to the superb 5 Star Zebula Golf Estate and Spa which is about a 10-minute drive from Bonwa Phala. Zebula offer a variety of activities such as golf, quad-bike safaris, archery, clay-pigeon shooting, fishing, horse safaris, spa treatments, restaurants, a convenience store, a signature design mountain bike course, and much more.
The Shingwedzi Wild Dog and Cheetah Breeding Centre is about 30 km away and offers a unique opportunity to experience cheetahs and wild dogs up close.
