Imagine sitting above a 30-metre waterfall, with breath-taking views of a river gorge and the wild Indian Ocean. This is the setting of The Fernery Lodge. It is hard to decide whether to admire the incredible surroundings from the Lodge's deck area with the swimming pool, Jacuzzi and sauna, or to enjoy it from any one of the six deluxe suites.

Each suite is tastefully decorated and every effort has been made to ensure our guests' comfort, from DSTV and an en-suite bathroom to a private deck with beautiful views. For complete opulence, try The Honeymoon Suite with its luxurious spa bath. At the end of a tough day relaxing, guests can wander through our wine cellar and select a bottle of wine before making their way to the Cellar Dining Room for excellent cuisine and an equally enjoyable atmosphere. Children are welcome in the Chalets, but regrettably no children under the age of 12 years are permitted in the Lodge and dinner restaurant due to its ambiance.

The Chalets - beautiful and secluded. Experience the Tsitsikmma as if you were the first to discover it. There are both B&B and self-catering chalets, each beautifully appointed and privately located, so you can enjoy a peaceful paradise experience. Relax in nature and treat your soul to views of mystical waterfalls, rock pools and the vast Indian Ocean.

The B&B chalets sleep two in either twin or king size luxury, whereas the self-catering chalets sleep four and have fully equipped kitchenettes, making them ideal for families - or choose one of the plush twin chalets (ideal for two couples) which offer en-suite bathrooms and private lounges, fully equipped kitchen and a private plunge pool on the deck. All the chalets are beautifully decorated and each chalet has a unique theme inspired by its magnificent surroundings. Enjoy the tranquillity of the mountains and forests from the privacy of the sheltered deck or curl up in front of the cosy ceramic fireplace with a good book. End the evening with a barbecue on your deck - simply arrange beforehand and you will be provided with everything from the ingredients to the Weber.

Facilities: An entertainment area with dart board, satellite television and sauna, as well as a swimming pool, is at the guests’ disposal. A large Jacuzzi, perched on the edge of the river gorge, is a favourite with our guests, and can be enjoyed with a bottle of wine or champagne.

Three-bedroom six sleeper luxury self-catering thatched Lodge has a plunge pool and air-conditioning in the main bedroom and lounge with TV. The main bedroom and lounge both have air conditioners that help to make it comfortable throughout the lowveld summer. The second bedroom opens onto an enclosed outside shower area. The third bedroom is upstairs in a loft and opens up onto a balcony above the outside dining table and braai area with it’s own stone fireplace. The kitchen has all the basic equipment needed for casual self-catering, including a driepoot potjie, a microwave oven and a fridge/freezer. A comfortable indoor lounge in the thatched double volume is furnished with a television and overlooks a wrap around view of pure, unspoiled lowveld bush.

The Estate has great wildlife populations that roam freely among the bush lodges. Giraffe, waterbuck, warthog, large herds of impala and buffalo are commonly seen. There are no predators on the Estate, which is perfect for walking, driving and mountain biking among the game. There are two elevated thatched hides overlooking water holes on a perennial stream that runs from the main gate in the west and flows due east towards the Kruger National Park. South of this stream the reserve extends for a further 5000 hectares of wildlife game protection area. At night the nocturnal wildlife is just as plentiful. The whoop of the black backed jackal is as loud as the millions of stars in the Milky Way are bright. If you sit outside at the fireside with the lodge lights dimmed you can expect regular visits from porcupines and warthogs while locating the bark of the male impalas in the dark. The Buffalo can be extremely short tempered and dangerous and should not be approached on foot. Exercise caution when moving past them in your vehicle.

Royal Thonga Safari Lodge is the culmination of a dream of the local Tembe community and private investors to create a natural paradise for visitors to this unique reserve. The lodge is architecturally designed to emulate the local Tonga building style, and each of the fourteen chalets is uniquely positioned to offer guests total privacy and luxurious comfort within a sand forest in Tembe Elephant Park.

Natural materials and timber give a warm organic ambience and invite the outdoors in; all rooms are appointed with quality furnishings, and bathrooms come complete with an indoor and private outdoor shower for those whom enjoy immersing themselves in their surroundings in rare solitude and perfect tranquillity.

A comfortable three and a half hour’s drive from King Shaka International Airport, and on the doorstep of Southern Mozambique’s decadent beaches, Tembe Elephant Park is renowned as a unique and unforgettable location, and one of the few remaining wilderness areas in Southern Africa. This Big 5 reserve, set in an area of sand forests, pans and wetlands in northern Thongaland, falls within a transition area between tropical and sub-tropical forms, and is therefore home to a great diversity of vegetation; with this diversity of habitats Tembe is home to a spectacular variety of animals and birds.

The eHlatini restaurant at Masizwane Lodge focuses on creating innovative and delicious meals by combining traditional European-style cuisine infused with a local twist, and avails of a fully stocked wine cellar offering fine South African wines.

The main lodge building houses the restaurant and a comfortable lounge area, where guests can sit back and enjoy a chilled glass of wine while watching birds flocking to the birdbath in front of the lounge deck, or just relax after a long day’s activities. The restaurant serves al fresco lunches and set dinners, either seated in the restaurant or in the Boma area under a million African stars. Fine meals are prepared with fresh ingredients, and are often infused with local flavours to create unique and tantalizing dishes. The reception area avails of a fully stocked curio shop, displaying goods and handmade artefacts which are produced by the local communities.
