Completed in 2005, Lupita Island is the ultimate private island retreat, offering luxurious accommodations set amid a pristine natural habitat. Located on Lake Tanganyika in western Tanzania, the second oldest and second deepest lake in the world, this 130-acre private island resort has eleven lavishly decorated, thatched-roof living spaces and two family cottages that have been strategically positioned to offer both privacy and breathtaking, uninterrupted views of Africa’s second largest lake. The shimmering waters and sandy beaches make Lupita Island the perfect complement to an adventurous African safari. As a guest, you may enjoy a variety of water sports and excursions to tiny, virtually undiscovered local villages or simply soak in the tranquil beauty of the island from the privacy of your open-air room. Fun and relaxation are the rule here, and it is the ideal way to end a vacation before heading back to the real world. Lake Tanganyika’s waters are clear and calm, providing the ultimate setting for water sport activities. Kayaks and canoes are available to guests to explore beaches around the islands. Snorkeling and PADI-certified scuba diving take you to the underwater world of Lake Tanganyika, which teems with hundreds of species of cichlids found nowhere else on earth, while water-skiing and sailing provide a great and adventurous way to exercise. In addition to the water, one can lounge on the beach or by the pool, which includes a full bar. Cooling breezes flow through Lupita’s dining room, which sits at the highest point of the island. The calm ambiance and extraordinary view of the lake delights the eye, but it is our menu of fresh fish that satisfies the palate. Our chefs specialise in modern African cuisine, prepared with fresh local ingredients and always accompanied by our delicious desserts.

The endless shoreline of Sumbu National Park offers a haven to wildlife, while the crystal clear blue waters teem with an unparalleled diversity of cichlids as well as the giant Nile perch. In the heart of the Rift Valley, the opportunities for discovery and adventure, beauty and relaxation, are as endless as African time itself. Nestled amongst lush tropical vegetation opening onto its own exclusive beach, Ndole Bay Lodge offers visitors a singular African experience on the shores of a unique lake. Ndole Bay Lodge is built on a fantastically forested slope ending in our own private beach. All rooms are built mostly from natural materials, with thatched roofs and breezy designs. Discreetly set amongst lush tropical gardens and towering fig trees, the lodge is virtually invisible to the outside world. A massive central thatched area acts as a dining room, reading area and bar. The fully stocked bar serves a range of local and international beers, wines and spirits, while our signature Ndole cocktails make good times at the wooden bar unforgettable. Comfortable couches, a dart board and other games make festivities a must before retiring to the beach for a moonlit nightcap, and a large swimming pool near the bar area allows cool dips between serious relaxation. A large wooden deck is situated right over the lake, providing a shaded recluse strewn with hammocks and sunbeds. Spend the whole day reading, sun tanning, swimming and snoozing. Steps off the deck lead straight into the crystal clear waters of the lake, so don’t forget your mask and snorkel. Delicious freshly prepared meals are available from our kitchen, with an emphasis on local produce and fresh fish from the lake; Tanganyika fish is internationally regarded as being among the finest eating anywhere. Any dietary requirements are easily catered for, please advise us upon your reservation. Our hospitality will make you wish time really would stop.
