The self-catering units each offers comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms and well-equipped kitchens. Each unit has a cosy kitchen with a mini-stove, microwave, and dining table and TV. There are room only options for those guests just passing through; looking for a place to just sleep and hit the road again in the morning. The camping and caravan area offers private ablution facilities and electric points. Braai facilities and shaded lots are available. Kingfisher Lodge is situated on the banks of the Sunday's River in a peaceful and quiet area of Graaff-Reinet. The town was established in 1786 and is the fourth-oldest town in South Africa. The surrounding farmland epitomizes the Karoo. The town has retained much of its architectural heritage and it is no wonder that it is known as the 'Gem of the Karoo'. Set in a beautifully maintained garden, against the backdrop of a variety of old trees which attract a variety of birds, there are seven luxury guest suites. Each suite is tastefully decorated in a distinctive style with antiques, brass beds and woollen and mohair carpets. All rooms are en-suite and some have both a shower and a bath. All rooms have private entrances and secure parking. The rooms are equipped with ceiling fans, desk fans, electric blankets and oil heaters to ensure the comfort of guests in all weather conditions. Tea and coffee facilities and TVs are provided in each suite. Décor in the main house features more antiques, woollen and Persian carpets and original paintings. Original doors, hand carved by Zanzibar slaves for Cecil John Rhodes' Estate, Groote Schuur, can be admired in the main house. The stained glass door of the dining room provides a gracious link between the main dining room and the drawing room with its yellowwood ceiling. The opulently appointed lounge is one of five living areas which include the sun porch, drawing room, enclosed patio and the lapa area near the swimming pool. Many national monuments and historical buildings can be found in and around Graaff-Reinet. These include the Dutch Reformed Church, Old Library, Hester Rupert Art Gallery, Reinet House, John Rupert Little Theatre, Old Residency, Urquart House, Graaff-Reinet Pharmacy, Powder Magazine, Drostdy and Stretch's Court, Cacti and Succulent Collection, Kalkkop Impact Crater, First Midland Hospital, St James Church, Union Monument, Town Hall and War Memorial, Cradock Street and the private dwellings.

Heather's B&B and Self-catering accommodation is located within walking distance of historical Graaff-Reinet. Arrive as a stranger, depart as a friend and return as a regular. Barry and Heather Vorster welcome you at Heather's. We offer three comfortable units. Each unit is separate with their own private entrance. All bedding, towels and toiletries are supplied. During the winter months there is an electric under-blanket on all of the beds and a heater in the sitting room. We have two cots available for babies. All units are non-smoking with an ashtray at the back door of each unit. All units are fully equipped for self-catering purposes and are supplied with tea, coffee, milk, sugar and rusks for morning refreshments. Guests can either enjoy a self-catering or a bed and breakfast option. Breakfast is served in the dining room of the main house. There is plenty of off-street parking, a fenced-in swimming pool, a play area for children and a free-standing braai area for each unit. Graaff-Reinet, the fourth-oldest town in South Africa, is recognized as the home of magnificent examples of Cape Dutch architecture, and over 220 heritage sites. The past is preserved in four extraordinary museums which hold collections of photographic memorabilia, firearms, artworks and fossils, tracing the story of the Karoo.

By offering self catering, dinner bed and breakfast accommodation in our family unit, we make it possible for people from the city to enjoy the quiet of the Karoo. At quite a reasonable cost this is the ideal place to unwind & experience the vastness of the veld. Guests at Allendale have their own private entrance and shaded parking. The unit consist of a spacious double room and an open-plan lounge area with a kitchen. The lounge area also doubles up as sleeping space for two more people, children or adults alike. The en-suite bathroom consist of a spacious shower, a basin and toilet. The veranda area is ideal for just relaxing, or a braai while watching the sunset. Once you are at Allendale, you can enjoy the 10 000 ha of farm through going for short walks or for the more energetic, mountain biking in Jeep track or hiking into the mountains to name a few. The homestead and garden area gives lots of space for children to run around or enjoy the jungle gym and play area's. The brave and adventurous can enjoy a swim in our cement dam used mainly to irrigate the garden.

Town is within walking distance and there are restaurants, museums, a game park, a golf course and lots more in and around town. Nieu Bethseda with the Owl House, the beer brewery and other activities are only 50 km from town. All are welcome from young to old. There is a double bedroom with a single bed, a bathroom, a lounge with a TV, a microwave, a kettle and a bar fridge. This could be shared with a one or two single bedroom and a shower room. Each room has its own entry. The lounge has tea, coffee, sugar and powder milk and could separate or join the two rooms. The rooms have bedding and towels and there is safe off-street parking.

We offer comfortable accommodation set in a tranquil garden with a patio and barbecue area. Heaters and electric blankets ensure a cosy sleep during those cold winter nights, and two of the en-suite rooms also have air-conditioners. In summer, breakfast is served on the patio with its beautiful collection of plants. In addition, a bar fridge, a microwave oven, a toaster and a kettle are at the disposal of our guests for their convenience.
