This is a malaria free area, where you can have exciting encounters with the 'Big 5'.You will be welcome in our secure and comfortable thatched cottages, surrounded by citrus groves, which we farm naturally - we have used no dangerous chemicals on the farm since 2000. We have 6 rooms, each with en suite bathrooms and tea/coffee making facilities. The rooms are big enough to squeeze in an extra bed or cot for your children.We grow and source as much food locally as what we can. Breakfasts are substantial, and include organic home baked bread, orange juice and preserves. In the beautiful citrus and rose growing area of the Sundays River Valley, 25 minutes from the Addo Elephant Park, Dave and Judy Smith welcome you to their farm. Avoca, which means ' The meeting of the waters '. Ideal for nature lovers and bird watchers. Luxury fully-equipped chalets along the river. Sleeps two to five people. Four thatch and mud huts with two hot shower/toilets and a fully-equipped ' Lapa ' (Kitchen) alongside the river where there is an abundance of fish and birdlife. Plenty of scenic walks through the citrus orchards, and canoeing on the river , which is inclusive of the price. A path leads down from the lush garden to a small bush camp overlooking the river where two wooden cabins nestle in a sheltered clearing. We now have a new chalet on this site. They share a hot shower/toilet and a fully equipped 'Lapa'. The camp leads out onto a deck that looks out over the river and mountains. A great place for sundowners. We also have access to a private game lodge at R1400 per person per day, which includes dinner, drinks and breakfast and a night and morning game drive. The wildlife includes Lions, Rhinos, Hippos, Giraffes and several Antelope Although our rates are per unit on the site we do welcome singles and couples to enquire about better options. Our self-catering units are not serviced, except by prior arrangement. Units not being serviced, except by arrangement. We also cater for backpackers.

Accommodation consists of four en-suite bedrooms each with its own private patio. There is a swimming pool in our lush garden for guests to enjoy. Hearty breakfasts are served on the patio overlooking the garden with its varied birdlife. Sample Nita's home made jams and preserves as well as her tasty home cooked South African meals. Mike enjoys sharing his knowledge of the African stars with the guests. We gladly organise game drives and safaris in the area.

Your host and hostess, Datie and Lezl van Niekerk will do their utmost to ensure the best possible experience in service and sincere South African farm hospitality. The Green Tree Guest Cottages is situated on a working dairy farm, centrally situated to the Addo Elephant Park with magnificent elephants to see, Schotia Safari’s where you get up close and personal with the lions and Big 5, Amakhala Game Reserve, the Frontier Country filled with history and the beautiful unspoilt beaches and moving sand dunes of the Sunshine Coast. All four cottages are spacious, beautifully decorated, all with own entrances, private patios and barbecue facilities. The cottages are tastefully furnished with Cape cottage furniture and a hint of Africa, with rich earthy colours, to create a tasteful Southern African interior which exudes the warmth that only farm life can offer. The cottages are serviced once daily from 10 am onward. Regret no laundry service. Self-catering guests can get wood on the farm should they wish to braai. All other produce can be bought in Port Elizabeth which will have your wider variety when it comes to fresh produce. The Spar grocery store at Colchester (26 km from The Green Tree), also on your way, is also a possible stop, but with a smaller variety of things to get. Colchester also has a cosy restaurant, which is renowned for its steaks. The Nanaga Farmstall is also close by, with a day restaurant that is good for breakfast and lunches. Homemade bakes and family size pies can also be bought there. The restaurant in the Addo Elephant park also supplies meals daily.

The owners/managers are qualified game/nature guides, and offer guided tours into Addo Elephant National Park, to our guests. Situated on the banks of the Sundays River, our magnificent decks have sweeping river views, a perfect backdrop to your big five game viewing. Classified as one of the cleanest rivers in the Eastern Cape, swimming is safe, canoes are offered to our guests, as is fishing tackle for the guest who wants an all round “river experience”. A ferry operates on the river, taking guests to the river mouth. Opposite the lodge is the famous Alexandria dune fields : the longest widest coastal dunes in the southern hemisphere, full of history and interesting facts. Use the canoes to access these dunes. Guests always enjoy the dune hikes. Perhaps you want to know more about the history, geology, flora and fauna of these amazing dunes. For a nominal fee a boat can collect you at the lodge, drop you off at your starting point, and with a GPS. system and detailed instructions do a “self guided tour” to the river mouth, where you will again be picked up by boat and brought back to the lodge. (Choose your degree of difficulty). Minimum of 4 persons or be prepared to pay the minimum fee. Use the lodge’s cycles or drive to where the Sundays River flows into Algoa Bay. Take a couple of drinks and watch the sun go down over the dune fields, or walk along this beautiful beach. The only people you may see are the occasional fishermen. Let the Lodge owners assist you in organising your stay: Booking you onto game drives at private game reserves, elephant back safaris, sea cruises on Algoa Bay (perhaps see whales).

The Stable Cottages are located only 8 km from the entrance to the Addo Elephant National Park, one of the world’s great conservation success stories, embracing one of the highest concentrations of big game in Africa and thus offering some wonderful game viewing opportunities. Set in four hectares of expansive lawns are the six Stable Cottages. These very spacious Cape country-style cottages all feature reeded ceilings and private verandas. Two of the cottages are family suites, with a separate interleading bedroom for the children. All the cottages are fully air-conditioned and heated and include stocked minibars and tea and coffee-making facilities. In front of the cottages is a large 12-metre swimming pool, as well as the wine bar with wonderful wide verandas where guests have their breakfast. The cottages are great for families; there is lots of space for children to run and play and there is also a fully equipped playroom, including TV and DVD player with a selection of DVDs, at the wine bar. The cottages are great value for money offering comfort, style and plenty of space.
