Robertson (20 km from Montagu) Bon Courage is headed by André Bruwer and his son Jacques; together with a formidable team they produce a selection of superb wines.

Hiking Trail

Robertson (26.7 km from Montagu) Arangieskop Hiking Trail is a tough trek up and down the Langeberg Mountain range in Dassieshoek Nature Reserve. The first day starts with a vigorous 9.5 km climb and is followed by an equally challenging 11 km decent the following day.
The cosy stone hut built into the rock face is a great refuge after the challenging first day. Apart from knockout views over Koo Valley, this gem of an overnight hut is equipped with an indoor fireplace, Aga stove, flushing loos, solar lights, and even a donkey boiler for hot showers.

Warning: Winter conditions can be extreme with occasional snowfalls making the downward route hazardous.

McGregor (29.2 km from Montagu) Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve's Heron Trail is an easy 3 km walk that is great fun for families. It usually takes about an hour to complete the fairly flat route to two dams. Each dam has a lovely bird hide.

Hiking Trail

McGregor (29.5 km from Montagu) The Rooikat Trail is a fairly strenuous circular 19 km trail through the Elandsberg Mountains in Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve. The route offers outstanding scenic views of the Langeberg, Riviersonderend Mountains and countryside around Robertson. There is no water available so hikers need to carry at least 2 litres of water per person.
Duration: 7 – 8 hours
Difficulty: Moderate to tough

Warning: Extremely high temperatures occur from November to March. Hikers are advised to start early in the morning, avoid walking during the hottest part of the day, wear a sunhat and take sufficient water.
Mountain Biking Trails

McGregor (29.7 km from Montagu) Vrolijkheid Mountain Biking Trail is described as a pleasant 8 km circular route on footpaths and gravel roads through the Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve. Cyclists must remain on the designated route.

Robertson (31.2 km from Montagu) Surrounded by the rolling Langeberg mountains in the Breede River Valley and bordered by vineyards and orchards, the new 18 hole Robertson Golf Course on the Silwerstrand Estate opened for play in April 2009. It is the only 18 hole golf course in the beautiful ‘Valley of Wine and Roses’. Described as a fun leisurely course, it is extremely golfer friendly with comfortable walks from tee to green. It has a great mix of long and short holes, with course designer Danie Obermeyer’s signature “rivet faced” bunkers providing punishment for the wayward shot!The tenth (par 4) and 12th (par 5) are expected to be the toughest holes, especially if the North Westerly wind is blowing, whilst the 18th (a par 5) is a rewarding finishing hole.

Four By Four Trails

McGregor (35.6 km from Montagu) Groot Toren Eco Experience is located 11 km from McGregor in the Riviersonderend Mountains. The unchallenging 25 km trail heads over the mountains with lookout points viewing the Breede River Valley with Robertson, Ashton, Bonnievale and periodically, Swellendam. The trail takes about 3 to 4 hours to complete and offers a fantastic A-shaped accommodation for four people at Klipspringer Groot Toren. The trail has a grading of 2 t0 3 and Low range, high clearance vehicles are needed. 4x2 vehicles with diff lock are required. Please contact the establishment for further information.
Hiking Trail

Swellendam (39.6 km from Montagu) The circular Swellendam Hiking Trail traverses the Langeberg Mountains, starting at the forestry station 3 km outside the town of Swellendam. The route offers incredible views, passing through mountain fynbos, rugged gorges and past impressive crags. Only fit and seasoned hikers should tackle the 6-day route. Shorter options are possible.

Located on the highest point between Montague and Barreydale, the area boasts beautiful scenery and tranquility. The dams itself are regularly stocked, so you can be assured a great time fly fishing. The is catch and release fishing, but if you wish to keep your fish, you'll have to pay per kilo. This is strictly fly fishing only and rod fees apply.
