Barefoot Safari Lodge - Malawi, lying within the tropics at the southern end of the Great Rift Valley, is affectionately referred to as ‘The warm heart of Africa’; not only is the climate warm, but Malawians really are among the friendliest people you could hope to meet. Anyone who enjoys scenic beauty will find the country richly endowed; from forested reserves, National Parks and broad highlands to the peaceful shores of Lake Malawi. Malawi has a lot more to offer than just a beach holiday. There are many exciting & varied options for the adventure, leisure or business traveller. Barefoot Safaris & Adventure Tours can co-ordinate these various aspects into many of our itineraries or even tailor make a trip to your own personal requirements. Horse riding in Nyika National Park, climbing Mount Mulanje (Central Africa’s highest mountain), kayaking on Lake Malawi, sailing, walking safaris and mobile safaris are all available in Malawi and of course we also offer classic camping safaris. At Barefoot Safaris and Adventure Tours we use qualified, trained and English speaking guides to ensure your experience of Africa is something very special. An adventure we hope you will not forget.

Nkhotakota Game Reserve Town of Central Malawi

Nkhotakota Game Reserve - Nkhotakota Game Reserve is located a few hours drive North East of Longwe and less than half an hour by Air. It covers roughly 1800 km squared and is one of the largest and oldest protected areas in Malawi. The vast reserve is comprised mainly of Miombo woodland interspersed with open Dambo lands and even some rain forest on Chipata mountain. The reserve is excellent for hiking along the Bua River or climbing one of its many beautiful peaks such as Kasukusuku which lies opposite Tongole Wilderness Lode. The Reserve is recognized as an IBA (Important Bird Area) and has some great species to be found like the Taita Falcon, hornbills including the many Ground Hornbills, Bohms Bee-Eater and an abundance of raptors to be found in the Miombo canopy or along the Bua River. Another great way to explore the Bua River is by canoeing along it in inflatables that can be found at Tongole Wilderness lodge. Fishing is also a popular activity along the river especially during the Mpasa ( lake salmon) run during the winter months. The reserve currently has two accommodation options which are Bua River Lodge and Tongole Wilderness lodge. The former is located near the entrance to the reserve and has lovely tented accommodation as well as catering for campers, backpackers and overlanders. The latter is located deep in the heart of the reserve and has four luxury riverside units. Access to the reserve is by road either via Nkhotakota or Ntchisi or by air, landing at Tongole Wilderness lodge's airstrip.

Cape Maclear Town of Southern Lakes

Seaside on Lake Malawi - This little spot was the independent traveller's haven. It is situated on Lake Malawi, surrounded by natural beauty and a wonderful island vibe. This place has grown substantially over the years. Now it offers a vast number of accommodation options, restaurants and things to do. It's also a great place to start a three-day kayak safari on the lake!

Lilongwe Town of Central Malawi

Sleepy as it gets - The capital of Malawi is a very sleepy spot. It has a rather large rustic market in the center of the city, surrounded by some cheap hotels and bars! It doesn't offer a great deal of entertainment, and is probably not the best spot to restock!
