The Beach Retreat

Description

The Beach Retreat is a simple romantic cottage, traditionally built as a Swahili house and converted into a beach cottage in 2010 by Zanzibar Villas Ltd. This beach cottage derives its name from its quiet and private location, offering plenty of space and absolute privacy. Guests can sit on the terrace and gaze endlessly at the sea and beach life parading before them at The Beach Retreat -
the sea comes right up to the garden gate during the high spring tides. The cottage is situated on the most unspoilt part of the best beach in Zanzibar, with no big resorts or loud music, it retains its charm. It is a perfect location for kite-surfing and snorkelling fans, beachcombers and shell hunters.

Bwejuu Beach is a broad and continuous beach sheltered by a wide coral lagoon and backed by palm trees, private houses and small hotels. Its wide pure-white powder sands stretch for kilometres from Dongwe village in the north to Jambiani in the south. At low tide, the beach offers wonderful views of seaweed ladies about their daily business of harvesting their seaweed crops and small fishermen on their traditional canoes.

The Beach Retreat cottage has good water and main-power supply, and all the windows are secured but open and covered with mosquito meshing offering maximum sea breezes through the house. One enters through the beachfront front door into the lounge, with the kitchen and toilet rooms through to the back of the building. The lounge is simply decorated with African paintings and furnished with two large sofas, a bureau and chair, coffee table and lamps, and also has a ceiling fan.

Off the lounge is the bedroom with en-suite bathroom, with hot and cold water, shower, toilet and two basins. The bedroom features two traditional antique Zanzibar three-quarter size beds, which can be pushed together to make a big double bed, with mosquito nets and a ceiling fans as well as two traditionally made wood shelving or clothes racks.

The kitchen is simple but well equipped for four people, with a gas stove, toaster, kettle and fridge-freezer. The terrace outside the front door is equipped with a large dining table with four chairs as well as a large sofa for lounging.

In the garden you’ll find a barbecue, sun loungers, a large sofa, tables and chairs, umbrellas, and a hammock. The garden offers some extra shelter from the sun and wind under the large trees, whilst still being on the beach.
