Swahili House is a stylish and charming converted Zanzibar-style house set in large colourful private gardens, situated five minutes’ walk from the beach. The house was converted in 2010 and derives its name from its typical local architectural style and the high wall that surrounds the villa and its colourful gardens, which offer plenty of space, shade and absolute privacy.
Guests enters the villa via the garden door into the central hallway, from which all rooms lead off. Swahili House includes a main bedroom with a three-quarter bed and a single bed with air-conditioning, fan, en-suite bathroom, and toilet. The second bedroom contains a three-quarter bed and a single bed, and the third bedroom contains two three-quarter beds. Both of these rooms feature air-conditioning and fans. The children’s bedroom contains a three-quarter double bed and a fan, and there is a central shared bathroom and toilet.
Further along the hallway is the well-equipped kitchen with fridge-freezer, oven, and electric hob. At the far end of the hall is a small dining room with table and six chairs, and an adjoining lounge with a large sofa, burro and satellite TV with DVD player. This is a cosy pace to relax or place the kids, and Wi-Fi is available throughout the house and in the gardens.
In the centre of the hallway is a wooden staircase leading through a trapdoor to the upper level featuring a sun terrace with sunbeds and three large sofas under the coconut leaf covered lounge area. An old Zanzibar door leads off to the fifth double bedroom, a very romantic and special place. This bedroom features a an open-air double bed under the coconut leaf covered area, with a fan and mosquito net. This room is lovely and breezy during most of the year and also boasts an open-air bathroom with an antique lion claw bath, hand-held shower, basin, and toilet.
The garden features a barbecue, dining table for up to 10 people, sun loungers, chairs and hammocks, and lots of white beach sand. With many flowering plants and trees the garden is a small haven for birds and there is plenty of space to relax.
