Do you want to spoil yourself and your partner, if so look no further. At last, a guest house with a difference.

On arrival a welcoming sherry and a huge log fire in the lounge. Each bedroom has its own romantic four-poster king-size bed draped with a silk mosquito net and of course, a log fireplace. Each also has its own bathroom with an old-fashioned ball and claw bath and lots of candles. After settling in, why not drop down onto one of the many overstuffed couches in front of the fire for liqueurs and a good book.

We are on a lovely protected cove on the south western shore of St Helena Bay; one of the only three natural bays on the mainland coastlines of the world, where one can see both sunset and sunrise over the sea with wonderful views of the Piketberg mountains which is often snow covered in winter. Though only 150 km from the Cape Peninsula, St Helena Bay has a milder and warmer climate providing ideal conditions for your stay.

Even Vasco dea Gama, the Portuguese explore/sailor who visited these fair shores in 1497, realized the peace of this quiet haven; as do calving whales who come from August to years end. Also spot large schools of dolphins often seen leaping and chasing close by.

Well situated for day visits to the West Coast National Park, Cape Columbine Nature Reserve and the quaint fishing village of Paternoster or join a tour of the internationally renowned Pala ontological diggings at the nearby Fossil Park. A birdwatcher's paradise with more than 200 species, visit the hides at Rocher Pan, the Berg River Estuary and Saltpans of Velddrif, as well as the golf club in Vredenberg.

A botanist's dream with spring flower veld displays every year or visit the annual Darling and Hopefield flower shows.

Stroll the white sands and cool off in the safe waters of the bay, the ideal place for water sports. Explore the seafood route or dive to the many wrecks and at the end of a perfect day, raise your glass to a spectacular sunset and the promise of yet another breathtaking day. An ideal rest stop for weary travellers during the week.

Britannia Beach Self-catering is a lovely two-bedroom apartment located along the palm-lined boulevard of Golden Mile. It has direct access to the beach.

The two rooms offer a double and twin beds respectively. They share the use of a bathroom with a shower only. We provide all linen and towels for convenience. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with a stove, oven, microwave, tea and coffee facilities and a fridge. Guests can enjoy their meals at the breakfast bar. The lounge is equipped with a TV with selected DStv and guests are welcome to bring their own smart card and decoder for more options. Guests can relax on the sun deck, which also has a built-in braai.

Shelley Point Country Club and Spa is great place to relax; guests can make use of the 10% discount available on activities such as golf, tennis, bowls, gym, the restaurants and bars. Guests can also go birdwatching, fishing, walking and swimming or just relax and enjoy the perfect breakaway.

Britannia reef is close to the town of Vredenburg, which is situated around a spring of fresh drinking water. In the surrounding areas you can find the West Coast Fossil Park and the West Coast National Park where you can see the best wildlife and flora that the coast has to offer.

Situated in the fishing town of St Helena Bay, guests will find Journey’s End. This lovely self-catering unit is located on a small holding on Britannica Heights and offers breathtaking views and sunsets over Paternoster and the ocean.

The spacious open-plan unit is fully equipped for self-catering and features a queen-size bed and a double sleeper couch, which can sleep one child or one extra adult. There is no separate bedroom.

The unit offers an en-suite shower, kitchenette with large fridge and freezer, mini stove with oven, microwave, dining area, 50 DStv channels and portable braai facilities on the patio. All linen and towels are provided, except beach towels. Tea, coffee and sugar is also provided. We are pet friendly but strictly small breeds only and by prior arrangement. The whole unit is not fenced but the patio has a latte railing and gate and there is a fenced area adjacent to the main dwelling available for the dogs to run around free.

St Helena Bay and surrounds has much to offer; such as white shell strewn beaches, calm waters with Heaveside's, Dusky and common dolphins visiting regularly. Humpback and Southern Right whales come to calve and mate from Aug-Nov and can be seen from the shore. July-October spring flowers in abundance after good rains. In our harbour, lovely fresh snoek can be bought straight from the boats during the snoek runs.

Plenty of crayfish during season. Visit the Berg River Estuary for a relaxing boat cruise up river, a bird watcher's paradise. Walking trails, cycling. Visit the Cape Columbine Lighthouse, nature reserve, Tietiesbaai and quaint town of Paternoster which is not far.

The West Coast National park is a must see. St. Helena Bay is the ideal base from which to explore the West Coast and outlying areas.

Pat's Place is a self-catering accommodation in St Helena Bay, where you can watch the sun rise and set on the bay. The accommodation is a stone’s throw from a very beautiful and tranquil beach, with balconies overlooking views of St Helena Bay.

The unit consists of two en-suite bedrooms and a fully equipped open-plan kitchen and lounge area, leading onto the balcony and braai area overlooking the indigenous garden. The unit sleeps a total of six guests comfortably in a double bed, two single beds and a sleeper couch. All linen and towels are provided, however beach towels are not supplied.

Pat's Place is situated on the Atlantic Ocean, with a most extraordinary coastline where the waters teem with marine life. Look out for the Southern Right whales, Heaviside dolphins, migratory birds from as far as Siberia, and thousands of Cape cormorants flying low over the bay at sunset.

Ancient granite hills and boulders form a backdrop to the village and offer stunning views of the bay and across to the Piketberg mountains, while the white sandy beaches are perfect for beach-combing and even a refreshing dip in the Atlantic Ocean.

Storm Petrel is a two-bedroom cottage situated approximately 1 km from the lovely sandy beach and safe swimming waters. There are two bedrooms; the main bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom has twin beds and a full family bathroom.

There is also a fully equipped open-plan kitchen, dining room and lounge leading out onto a patio with a braai area. The house boasts lovely sea view across the bay to Lamberts Bay.

St Helena Bay is one of the most popular bays for whales to visit and calve. From August to November, the Southern Right whales come in to the bay to calve and can be viewed from the shore all around the bay. Humpback whales are also present in the area.

Heaviside dolphins are found in large numbers at any time along with schools of Dusky and Common dolphins. Large groups can be seen chasing fish along the shore or simply flying through the waves out of sheer enjoyment.
