Come and share some Free State Hospitality, in the heart of the Southern Free State; Ploegfontein Guest Farm offers lovely accommodation on a sheep farm. Experience some wonderful Karoo hospitality in one of our private cottages, surrounded by gardens and open views of the farm and surroundings.

Ploegfontein Guest Farm is ideally situated 160 km south of Bloemfontein on the N1. This is an ideal stopover for guests traveling through the Free State, and we look forward to welcoming you.

Comfortable accommodation is provided in private cottages. Dinner and a continental breakfast is served in the comfort of your cottage. Dinner includes Karoo lamb served with a selection of fresh vegetables, followed by dessert. Each cottage is fully equipped with a kitchenette area, a microwave, bar fridge, television with local channels, and a bathroom that includes towels and toiletries. Swimming towels are also available to our guests.

The guest farm also offers a large swimming pool, and a tennis court. Guests can enjoy a spot of bird watching, take lovely quiet walks through the veld. Gariepdam is just 40 km south of Ploegfontein, should guests wish to take a day trip.

Otterskloof Private Game Reserve lies on the border of the Free State and Northern Cape along the majestic Van Der Kloof Dam. Set in a unique part of South Africa, this jewel of the Free State awaits to surprise our visitors. The reserve is set on 13,800-hectares of dramatic Karoo landscape with a unique river ecosystem containing, among others, breeding pairs of Cape clawless otters.

The accommodation is spread over two lodges, each with its own character; the Safari Lodge is the main lodge and offers luxurious catered accommodation in a revamped farm homestead, each room with its own separate entrance. The Bush Lodge is set in a reclaimed hunting outpost and offers a close-to-nature private self-catering lodge with three en-suite bedrooms.

All rooms are equipped with double or single beds, en-suite bathrooms with showers, linen and towels as well as complimentary toiletries, a heater, safe for valuables, and a hairdryer. Rooms are serviced daily and a laundry service is also available.

At Otterskloof Private Game Reserve guests can enjoy night drives, hiking, kayaking, bird watching, game drives, fishing, mountain biking, trail running, and supervised 4x4 trails, among other activities.

The owners, Abel and Karen Erasmus, are well-known conservationists and breeders of rare game species. Abel is a highly respected breeder with a proven track record of more than 26 years.

The Anker is situated in the province of the Free State. It is surrounded by lovely farms and mountains. Here you can switch off completely and forget about rush-hour traffic and deadlines. The tree-lined dirt roads, simple Karoo-style cottages and pomegranate and quince trees give The Anker a tranquil feel.

We have three self-catering rooms. The Karoo Room has twin beds in one room and a single bed in another, as well as a full separate bathroom. The Lavender Room has a double bed with a full separate bathroom with a double shower. The Ocean Room has one double bed and a single bed, with a separate bathroom with bath. All rooms are self-catering and included use of the front outside area with braai. Breakfast is available on request. Guests staying alone receive a discounted rate.

Philippolis is a lovely village for those who want to escape from the city for a few days. Enjoy silence, closeness to nature, stargazing, birdwatching, no traffic, old-fashioned tranquility and friendliness in this beautiful Free State town.

Braai area available, braai packs can be organised at an additional cost. A favourite among guests is the Karoo Lamb.

Springfontein House is very conveniently situated on the outskirts of the little village and thus it is quiet and surrounded by fields. Throughout the house, there is an extensive collection of objet d’art, as well as South African and European paintings. The guesthouse has been completely renovated, and the garden has been subject to a comprehensive replanting programme. A swimming pool has been built, which guests find a welcome relief after a long and hot journey. In winter, guests can relax in the warm sitting room, or go for a brisk walk before enjoying a delicious dinner.

Through glass doors is a sunroom with slate floors, and an incarnadine dining room. Enjoy Georgian tables and silver candelabras. In the bedrooms, the curtains are silk, the towels soft and the comfortable beds have crisp linen, plump pillows and mohair throws. Outside, white walls dazzle brightly and creepers climb above the stoep. There is a brick patio and colourful flowerbeds, a pool and a series of fishponds. All rooms have an en suite bath or shower and a television. Dinner at R150 per person.

Philippolis is on the old national road, R717, between Colesberg and Trompsburg. It is an ideal stop over, 630 km from Johannesburg, 800 km from Cape Town, and 470 km from Port Elizabeth. The deviation off the N1 highway from Colesberg to Trompsburg is in fact 7 km shorter than the actual N1 and without trucks.

Philippolis is also a lovely village for those who want to escape from the city for a few days. Enjoy silence, closeness to nature, stargazing, bird watching, no traffic, old fashioned tranquillity and friendliness.

The historical town of Philippolis is renowned for its warm hospitality and cheerful atmosphere. Voortrekker Street; where the lodge is situated has an abundance of historical buildings including the Trans-Gariep Museum as well as the Victorian Jacobson Library

There is a lot to do in the town as well as its surrounds. The Orange River runs between the Waterkloof Dam and the Gariep Dam and has great fishing opportunities.

Garingboom Guest Farm has two self-catering cottages and three en-suite cottages. It is an eco-friendly Karoo sheep farm situated in the Southern Free State, 150 km south of Bloemfontein on the N1. Two trails on the farm provide the opportunity to do some birding and walking on your own.

We offer accommodation in comfortable fully equipped, two-bedroom cottages under shady trees. Each unit includes air-conditioning, a TV, kitchenette, fridge, barbecue facilities and covered parking. Breakfast and special Karoo lamb dinners are also available.

Over 140 species of birds are listed on the farm. These include the burchell's courser, layard's titbabler, blue korhaan, rock pipit and many other Karoo specials. A new species, the kimberley pipit, are residents on the farm and in the winter times. The longtailed pipit is a special visitor. Riëtte is an experienced birder and special birding trips, horse rides and dragonfly spotting can be arranged with her.

A long distance soaring centre as well as a nature reserve, golf course, bowling green, fishing and sailing is just few kilometres away (Gariepdam). We have 2 separate cottages from the main house. Our larger cottage is situated on the side of our mountain behind the farm house and the smaller cottage is situated on our dam wall. In both cottages all linen and towels are provided. All meals are served in the privacy of your cottage. Dinner consists of Karoo lamb, vegetables, rice, roasted potatoes and desert. A cooked breakfast is served. Coffee, tea, juice and rusks for your enjoyment.
Upper Chalet (dinner, bed & breakfast or self-catering) contains the following. 2 bedrooms; 1 with a double bed and the other with 2 single beds . An open plan kitchen and lounge. A single bed as well as a sleeper couch in the lounge. The bathroom is with a shower, toilet and wash basin. Braai facilities (Barbeque facilities) and a beautiful view ideal for star gazing.
