Tropical getaway in South Africa - On par with an island getaway with just enough activities to keep you busy, without the business of a town. Beautiful and peaceful . We were lucky enough to swim with dolphins on 2 occasions and swam with a whale shark. Diving exceptional. Would definitely recommend the Italian Pizza Caravan, the hotdog palace & waffles from next door.Quad biking tours also really fun. To avoid paying hefty park fees every time you enter, get a seasonal ticket- equivalent of 2 separate entries in price, but you can enter as many times as you like. Guards at boom gates very friendly, although can take a while to enter if you get stuck behind the boats for an early dive
Sodwana bay not a value for money destination Overrated and expensive !!! - If you're a day visitor the park charges you R85.00 per day to enter thru their gates. Extra charges if you are more than one person in the vehicle.
You can only use your 4X4 vehicle on the beach (in a restricted area) Saturdays & Sundays or public holidays or school holidays ? Not sure which province. The rest of the time you park your vwehicle and oh yes they have guys in camp uniform searching your vehicle overtime you enter the park. NO ALCOHOL !!!
Boy what fun you have without driving for 10hrs + to the Bay just to be stopped because you have alcohol!!!
But the locals arrive with beer cans and bottles hurled out the windows strewn on the roadside assuring employment opportunities for their brothers and sisters and make a smokey BBQ and lots of noise (did I mention that loud music is also not allowed) ??
Consuming the liquid refreshments like the rules only apply to the paying visitors to Sodwana bay!
What a shame it's no longer a value for money place to visit. No wonder the Mozabique option attracts so many ex visitors to Sodwana.
