One of the best-kept secrets in Africa, Sayari Camp is tucked away in a remote region of the northern Serengeti, perfectly positioned to witness the great migration crossing the Mara River.

The vast plains and woodlands around the river allow for undisturbed game viewing all year around. Exceptional guides ensure close encounters with the migratory wildebeest and zebra and the staggering numbers of big cats, crocodile, elephant, giraffe and plains game all thriving in this magical Serengeti landscape.

Sayari Camp is regarded by many as the finest safari camp in East Africa due to a combination of superb location, elegant design, excellent facilities and a truly intimate atmosphere. Almost every feature of Sayari Camp overlooks the untouched landscape of the Serengeti; the spacious tents, the huge beds, the large verandas, the swimming pool and even the baths. The line that separates this unique camp from the Serengeti outside is hard to distinguish.

With massage treatments, delicious cuisine and friendly, attentive service, the camp manages to achieve a perfect balance between relaxation and adventure.

Like all Asilia camps, Sayari is proud to be carbon neutral since late 2009. Sayari Camp has played a pivotal role in the long-term conservation of the north-western Serengeti. The arrival of the camp has secured the long-term conservation of this area of the park. Employment at the camp and a fruit and vegetable growing program initiated by Sayari have provided opportunities for the villages at the park’s border to benefit from the tourism in the national park.

Enjoy a bush breakfast at the river’s edge, waiting for the wildebeest to cross as the sun rises over the Serengeti; experience a morning you will always remember. As the day goes on, lose yourself in the rolling plains that stretch into Kenya or follow the Mara River in search of hippos and some of the world’s largest crocodiles.

In addition to game drives led by expert guides, Sayari Camp offers the rare opportunity to experience the Serengeti on foot; for an unmatched sense of freedom and an exhilarating connection to the sights and sounds of the bush surrounding you. The camp itself is a wonderful place to spend time. Even the most enthusiastic safari-goers might end up taking a day off from busy game drive schedules to simply read or relax by the poolside, absorbing the marvellous vista in front of the camp.

Famed for its vast open grasslands and exceptional wildlife sightings, Tanzania’s magnificent Serengeti National Park boasts 35 species of plains-dwelling game, as well as prolific bird life. Perhaps most significantly, it is also site of part of the famed Great Migration, an annual movement of wildebeest and other herbivores across the Greater Serengeti-Mara ecosystems, considered one of the greatest spectacles of the natural world.

The &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas camps attempt to anticipate the movements of the Great Migration, bringing guests as close as possible to the wildebeest action, as well as exploring magnificent resident game.

Using only private campsites, these mobile camps are entirely intimate and exclusive, featuring spacious safari tents, each with a double bed, en-suite bathroom, separate toilet, and alfresco bucket shower. Redolent of classic safari style, custom-made Indian rugs, crisp linens, sparkling crystal and polished brass lend flair to the simplicity of camping.

Carefully planned according to the projected movements of the Great Migration, the camps aim to bring guests within comfortable driving distance of the herds. However, the wildebeest masses move with the rains, which may occur at a different time each year, so it is not always possible to accurately predict where they will be. &Beyond’s expert guides will always try to place guests in the midst of the thronging wildebeest but, should the animals not appear when expected, the guides’ intimate knowledge of the ample resident game will ensure a rich game viewing experience.
