Blommekloof Cottage is a charming, fully-renovated, old labourer’s house situated on an old mushroom farm. Off the beaten track, it offers solitude, beauty, peace and quiet - walks in the fynbos, swimming or fishing in the dam, stargazing, meditating or baking muffins!

The three-bedroom cottage is fully-equipped with all the necessary mod-cons; however there is no TV and cell phone reception is poor. This however, is a big attraction, and most guests come here to unwind and find peace. There are two fridges and a huge fireplace, a library and unlimited fire and braai wood.

For those needing more stimulation, we are in close proximity to George, Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn and surrounds. We are pet-friendly as well as Gay-friendly. All we ask is that you respect the environment and the peace and quiet.

There is a trading store eight kilometres from the cottage, and plenty of local fare to sample, farm eggs, fresh farm milk and butter. And there are horse rides, carriage rides, bushman rock art and art galleries all in the immediate vicinity. Kids can explore, run wild in the valley and swim in the river. But mostly it is about unwinding and finding peace.

The Ruiterbosch valley is centrally located in the foothills of the Outeniqua mountains. When one drives on the R328 from Oudtshoorn, and descends the Robinson Pass, even the most jaded traveller is surprised at the sudden change in scenery and climate. The hot and dry Karoo has been replaced by beautiful forest shrouded in mist with the Indian Ocean glittering in the distance. Most motorists accelerate at this point to reach Mossel Bay, scarcely 30 km away. The less hasty will, however, stop at either the nearby hotel or at the newly opened Ruiterbosch Lodge for refreshments or to just sit back and admire one of the most scenic spots on earth. The owner of Ruiterbosch Lodge, Ernest Collett has travelled widely (over 40 countries) and was living in exotic India when, during a holiday in South Africa, he stumbled on this beautiful valley and found an old Cape cottage and stables that has been converted to a guest house and wedding venue.

Discerning travellers, who appreciate nature, would love to make this their base for exploring the Oudtshoorn, Cango caves and Garden Route area.

Take a trip to an old world of serenity, working Percheron Heavy Draft horses and old-fashioned hospitality. The relationship of humans and horses have sustained the world again and again throughout the centuries. Get back there at Outeniqua Moon Stud and Guest Farm and rediscover the magical connection with these rare giants.

This magical 100-hectare mountain farm is guaranteed to take away all those inner city blues and delight the whole family, young and old. Step out of your door and into a beautiful world of mountains, birds and horses, with fabulous hiking and mountain bike trails on the farm and in the area.

Our Cart Rides are great for all ages and very scenic, through the fynbos. The ride lasts about 45 minutes and stops at a magnificent view point over-looking the Leeukloof valley.
