MyPond Hotel is an exciting, newly built hotel on the banks of the Kowie River, in Port Alfred. The car park is dominated by a 10m high Queen Palm, and the entrance by a welcoming waterfall feature. You can already feel this is somewhere a little special. The climate is temperate, and during the 2nd World War the Royal Air Force built 5 pilot training schools in the area as they felt that it had the best weather in the Empire suited to training. The emphasis of the accommodation is on comfortable, and affordable, luxury, with stunning, very roomy (approx 50 m²), river-view Suites and practical (approx 25 m²) Classic Rooms. There are many touches that will simply make you say “Wow”, from the electronic Do Not Disturb signs to the LED lit light switches, to help you find them in the dark. All hot water, the swimming pool and air-conditioning is heated/cooled using innovative and very environ-friendly geothermal (heat from the earth) technology – a first for South Africa. Also a vast majority of lighting is low wattage energy saving globes. The vibrant Etare restaurant and stunning 60 seater Conference Centre, both opening out onto the banks of the river, add to the hotel’s ‘get-away-from-it-all’ feel. All three meals are served on a á la Carte basis, and there is a fully stocked bar. Conferences and Weddings are professionally arranged to accommodate both small parties and those up to a maximum of 120 persons. The entire hotel can also be available to being booked out for longer periods by either Conference or Wedding Parties at reduced rates. The rooms are all en-suite, air-conditioned, with LCD televisions (10 satellite channels), telephones, universal plug points, Safe, fridge and tea/coffee facilities. The Suites are equipped with I-Pod docking station radios, heated towel rails and sleeper couches. There is disabled access to all our rooms (via lift) and a full disabled toilet in our lobby. Our pricing is aimed at tempting you to spend that little more – to get a lot more in value. Guests also have access to a Swimming Pool, Wi-Fi Internet and a Spa. Port Alfred is a quaint town, with many hidden gems, quiet English pubs, Sports Bars, a TAB, beach bars for the teenagers, two shopping malls, and a host of delightful gift and antique shops. We have two designer Golf Courses nearby, a very active air training school and miles of unspoilt beaches, where even in the busy times, you may not see another soul. We would be delighted to organize days out (boating, game-viewing, golf, birding, hiking and horse riding). With sufficient notice we are able to organize airport transfers. There is a host of activities from kite-surfing to scuba-diving, fishing, world class surfing, golf, bowls, croquet, historical trails, museums, indoor pool, malls, self drive game viewing ... or you can just relax.

    Port Alfred Hotel Accommodation

Port Alfred is a vibrant coastal town on the Sunshine Coast between Port Elizabeth and East London. The cheerful climate, endless golden sandy beaches, quaint old harbour and upmarket residential Royal Alfred Marina draw holidaymakers from all over the country.

The Kowie River runs through the town, providing a playground for watersport junkies with great waterskiing, angling and canoeing. Try the two-day Kowie Canoe Trail for a real wilderness adventure.

At the river mouth are some great surf spots. Hard-core surfers head for the barrels rolling off the East Pier. From here the scuba diving charters, deep-sea fishing boats and yachts head out to the distant reefs and deep sea. Experience the unique soft corals and sponges on the reefs or dive 18th Century shipwrecks.

Venture out of town to see the Great Fish Point Lighthouse or go hiking in pristine Eastern Cape Valley Bushveld. There are excellent hiking trails and horse riding along the beach and inland at Three Sisters Horse Trails, Horse Shoe Bend Reserve and the Kap River Nature Reserve.
