Planet Baobab is located along the cracked and cropless landscape on the road between Maun and Francistown, where elephants tear up any tree that dares to raise its head, a large grey hulk looms into sight at the edge of the road. Watch out for the giant anteater on the side of the road.

Follow the side road pointed out by that anteater snout and you will discover the intriguingly named Planet Baobab. This is the baobab capital of the world, where the average age of each tree is 4000 years and beyond and the boundless lunar landscape of the Makgadikgadi salt pans is the size of Switzerland. Planet Baobab is home to one of the largest and coolest pools in the Kalahari and the funkiest bars and restaurant serving interesting and delicious dishes from all across Africa, and we are vegetarian friendly. Just a stone's throw away is the elephant's paddling pool. The elephants and travellers mostly ignore each other.

You can sleep in traditionally styled Bakalanga or Baobab Huts containing en-suite bathrooms with showers; Dome Tents with fully made up stretcher beds or pitch your tent and park your 4x4 in our shady campsite, all with the best ablutions in the bush.

Light your own campfire, or gather round the communal blaze in the 'lelwapa' and enjoy a cool drink, then sling your own 'boerewors' onto the fire or enjoy Planet Baobab's unique Pan-African cuisine. Base yourself here and you can take guided day trips or overnight tours.

Get up close and personal with super-friendly habituated meerkats, tour the local village and learn about Botswana culture, visit a local cattle post and enjoy a delicious traditional lunch, and visit Nxai Xini Pan to seek out ancient stone tools and fossils. Visit the famous Green’s Baobab, do a walk through a baobab forest and much much more.

During the dry season, quad bike across the Makgadikgadi Pans, sleep out under the stars or do a five-night quad bike expedition to the remote and mysterious Kubu Island. During the wet season see the spectacular migration. Host to between 35 to 75000 zebra and wildebeest, Southern Africa’s last and little-known annual migration.

In a continent which is full of surprises, and a place which is full of nothing, Planet Baobab is really something.

Leroo La Tau rises majestically above the Boteti River which stretches across the western border of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. The park, populated by up to 30,000 zebra and wildebeest closely accompanied by predators, offers guests the chance to experience the exhilaration of seeing large concentrations of game and the resultant predator interaction.

The lodge offers a raised hide above the river where guests can enjoy the spectacular wildlife sightings that we’ve come to expect in this part of Botswana. A dining room, reading room and bar are all present in the main lodge, as well as expansive wooden decks and a plunge pool where guests can immerse themselves seamlessly into the ultimate wildlife experience in Botswana.

The 12 luxurious thatched and glass fronted suites with en-suite bathrooms, each raised on a wooden platform, overlook the Boteti River. Nata Lodge is an oasis set among the Mokolwane palms on the edge of the Makgadikgadi pans. It is ideally situated close to the entrance of the Nata Sanctuary, just off the main road, 10 km from Nata Village. This is the junction to the Okavango, Chobe and Francistown areas where activities include game drives, bird watching and exciting excursions.

Nata Lodge offers thatched chalets set in rustic African style, custom-designed safari tents which are en-suite on platforms with all the comforts of a typical luxury safari camp, or camp sites with semi-open ablutions.

This area incorporates a multitude of salt pans and vast grass plains dotted by palm islands and forms the Great Makgadikgadi which comprises the largest area of salt pans in the world, covering some 37,000 square km in overall extent.

Tiaan's Camp is an oasis at the Makgadikgadi National Park entrance gate at Khumaga, within easy reach of Nxai Pan National Park and Central Kalahari Game Reserve. This is also an ideal stopover for travellers on their way from Gauteng to Maun.

On the western edge of the great Makgadikgadi Pans on the Boteti river bank we provide affordable accommodation in our six chalets, or you can camp in one of our fully serviced camp sites. The eight camp sites have water and electrical connections. The ablution block offers warm water showers, and toilets.

Our restaurant overlooks the Boteti River and on the upper deck you can relax and wait for the elephants or the occasional zebra to come and drink. The restaurant offers simple yet nourishing meals, and cocktails can be enjoyed on the upper deck. Our bar is called ‘Zanzibar’ and we have a modest selection of wines, spirits, beer and sodas to quench your thirst, and if campers need ice they will get it in Zanzibar.

The swimming pool, restaurant and bar will refresh you for your game drives into the park where you can encounter elephants, impalas, kudus, zebras, wildebeest, giraffe and lots more of our furry and feathery friends. If you are lucky and wide-eyed, you can see lion, leopard and even rhinoceros in the park.

Tiaan’s Camp is on the edge of Khumaga village; a 140 km south east of Maun on the main tarred route from Khama Rhino Sanctuary to Maun. A 4x4 off-road vehicle is not needed to get to us. We do offer game drives in our game drive vehicle into the parks.
