De Oude Huize Yard is part of a 150-year old historical house in Harrismith. We offer exceptional accommodation and our restaurant is known for its wonderful meals.

We offer accommodation in the Eastern Free State. We are en-route to the Drakensberg, from Johannesburg or OR Thambo International Airport. De Oude Huize is also within easy access from the N3 en-route to Durban, and within easy access from the N5 en-route to Bloemfontein. Our establishment is in procimaty to the Drakensberg, Sterkfontein Dam and Battlefields.

We offer a romantic and historical ambiance. Experience our historical tour through town in a 1948 Chevy.

Our rooms are all en-suite with private entrances. We also have a live-in artist specializing in beautiful wrought-iron pieces. Flowers are grown and displayed for the pleasure of our guests. Our dinners, on request, are prepared with home-grown produce and we support local farmers for only the freshest produce.

The 250-hectare farm is owned by a local family that wanted to share the experience of an unpretentious, tranquil breakaway with other like-minded people. Whether it be exposing the children to a wonderful farm environment, a group of friends that meet halfway between Johannesburg and Durban or a family reunion, Where The River Runs... is sure to create a desire to return again and again.

The comfortable four-bedroom house offers affordable accommodation for up to nine people and features a fully equipped kitchen, a large dining room with a 12-seater table, and a sunny lounge with fireplace that opens out onto the veranda where spectacular views of the farm and surrounding area can be enjoyed.

Guests have full access to the farm to enjoy long walks and are welcome to bring their mountain bikes or motorbikes along. There is plenty to do in and around the area, with the Sterkfontien Dam a short distance away, several tourist attractions in the nearby Drakensberg area, and Clarens a picturesque part of the world to visit.

Mount Everest Game Farm is a game reserve of approximately 1000 hectares in the scenic Eastern Free State. The farm offers caravan and camping sites as well as nine chalets set amongst the hilltops to ensure total privacy. It is not a resort, but a working sheep farm and guest farm.

Each self-catering chalet has a living room, a fully equipped kitchen and bathrooms with showers or baths. The rooms are furnished with bunk beds, single beds and/or double beds. All chalets have braai facilities. Not all the chalets are wooden cabins, some are brick buildings with a thatch roof. The brick and thatch chalets are the 10 Sleepers and the Duplex chalets.

We host weddings or functions of up to 200 guests.

There are no TVs in any of the chalets. In the reception there is a DStv, table tennis and small shop with necessities like sweets, chips, cold drinks, ice and wood. Guests can walk or ride their mountain bikes on any of the motor paths or in the field, since there are no laid out routes. Fishing can be done with guest's own fishing gear, and horse riding and game drives are also available. Paint ball is available for four or more people. It is essential that activities are booked in advance.

There are 45 en-suite rooms, all equipped with tea and coffee facilities, air-conditioners/heaters, and TVs with 12 channels. Each room has undercover parking. Our double rooms are equipped with two double beds each, accommodating a maximum of four people. The single rooms are equipped with one double bed each, accommodating two people each.

The Caravan Park has 30 stands with power points, 30 tent stands and state-of-the-art ablutions, all surrounded by an electric fence. Guests have a choice of of breakfast, either at Wimpy or the adjacent coffee shop, Heikes Place or Teak Table. There is a petrol station, an ATM, conference facilities, food outlets and shops, an a la carte restaurant, and an animal and play park on site. The three Dormitories have bunk beds and is shared. There is a private room with double bed and bunk bed sleeping four people. The rooms all make use of a communal bathroom. A communal kitchen is available for those looking to self-cater. We have an entertainment area with braai facilities and there is a lounge with DStv. A large veranda looks out over Platberg Mountain. There is safe parking for guests. Wi-Fi available as well as laundry faculties.

The Sterkfontein Dam is just 20 km away from town and is the largest dam is South Africa. The area also boasts hiking trails such as the Sentinel Peak with chain ladders, the lovely gorge hike, hiking to the 2nd highest waterfall in the world! We are the perfect base to work from, doing activities in the area. Guests can visit the Town Hall which has recently been restored or the Debora Retief Gardens in the town. A lovely old blockhouse build by the British can also be visited.

At the turn of the century, while Paul Bester, one of the original farmers, was interned in Ladysmith during the Anglo Boer War, the infamous Rimington's Guides attacked his Free State farm, turning out his family, and burning down the house. After the war, as an apology, the British Crown rebuilt the homestead. It is this older wing of the house which has now been renovated for guests, hence the name, "Her Majesty's Apology"

This charming, historic homestead is cool in the summer months, but has a cosy fireplace for those chilly Free State winter nights. It comprises three bedrooms, and an open-plan kitchen, dining area and lounge. The first bedroom contains a double bed, and the second and third bedrooms each contain twin single beds. The bathroom features a ball and claw tub, and a shower. The kitchen is well equipped for self-catering. Catered meals and picnic baskets may be provided by arrangement.

This is a prime spot for birding and mountain biking. There are plenty of hiking trails in the vicinity; your hosts can provide routes for beginner mountain bikers as well as adventurous biking veterans. Guests can also enjoy visits to the Sterkfontein Dam, Clarens, the Golden Gate National Park, and the Drakensberg.
