Crestholme - Colourful & Quaint - One of the highest altitude points in the upper Highway area, sporting rural, Valley of Thousand Hills, ocean and Inanda Dam views, the tranquil village of Crestholme has much to offer. A mix of urban and semi-rural settings, Crestholme is conveniently close enough to the hustle and bustle of excellent shopping centres and restaurants in Waterfall, Hillcrest and Kloof (10 to 15 minutes away), but also situated far out enough for residents and visitors alike to enjoy beautiful starlit evenings listening to the call of the resident spotted Eagle Owls and the Wood Owls, or the tribal drums of the local people.
The air is clean and sweet (the testimony of many lichen-covered trees) and the bird life is prolific. Crested eagles, Gymnogenes and Hawks all make their appearance, as do African Hoopoes and the crying Hornbills. It is not uncommon to see a Duiker cross the road, nor a mongoose, genet or even the occasional porcupine.
You might even see the local carriageman passing by in his horse and carriage, or hear the lowing of cattle as a herdsman walks them home after a day’s grazing in the open field.
The community of Crestholme is a close-knit one, with many of the residents using shortwave radio communication. Creativity abounds in Crestholme, with musicians, artists, potters, crafters, horse whisperers, nurserymen and smallholders rubbing shoulders and trading stories at the local watering-holes with each other!
Visitors to the area have easy access to 4 x 4 tracks, walking trails, riding stables, plant nurseries, a herb & lavender farm and mini art gallery. Further afield lies the promise of catching huge bass in Inanda Dam.
