Toverberg Guest Houses consist of restored historical town houses in the quiet part of Colesberg. Colesberg is a traveler's oasis on the main routes to the coast and interior where the N1 and the N9 meet.

In Bell Street, rich in history, we offer two- and one-bedroom private units with limited self-catering facilities, DSTV bouquet and lockup garages.

Breakfast is provided on request. All our accommodation is pet and child friendly. Restaurants, museum, and shops are within walking distance.
From its earliest days Colesberg has been a bustling town yet also a resting and meeting place. It became the gateway to the north for explorers and hunters, later for those adventurous enough in seeking their fortune on the Diamond and Goldfields. Colesberg today, is also the southern gateway to the Lake Xariep Tourist Route R58. This route R58 covers Gariepdam, Norvalspont, Venterstad, Oviston and Bethulie.

The Colesberg-Kemper Museum with its 19th century toy collection and memorabilia is the permanent house to the UNISA Karoo Nomad Photographic Exhibition. Of interest are also the Anglo-Boer War and the Struggle rooms. Together with Anglo-Boer War sites and a fine selection of 19th century buildings Colesberg offers an exciting reflection on the past and present. In close proximity you can enjoy a nine-hole golf course with challenging Karoo fairways, well-maintained grass greens, aprons and well-equipped club house facilities.

Other facilities in town include tennis courts, cycling and walking routes, the family and pet walking route, bird watching and unique sunrises and sunsets as only the Karoo has to offer. The Doornkloof Nature Reserve is approximately 45 km North-west of Colesberg around the confluence of the Zeekoei and Orange Rivers.

We welcome you to experience and explore the town, enjoy the warm hospitality of this unique place and its people.

An AA Superior, full service guest house situated in a quiet area of Colesberg. The Barracks so named as the property was used as barracks during the Anglo-Boer War was built in 1851 and substantially renovated in 2004. The original building, which is now our family unit, was soon augmented by the main house as the owner, David Arnot, was a prolific breeder of children and needed plenty of accommodation to house his large family.

The comfortable and spacious double rooms, all with private access, have their own bathrooms each with a bath and separate shower and private patios. They are all fully air-conditioned to ensure a comfortable stay no matter what the season is. All rooms have TV with M-Net or any other channel from the DStv bouquet. We also have a large family unit with its own private courtyard shaded by a large oak tree and grape vines. This unit is also ideal for guests traveling with dogs. A further unit, which is ideal for pets, has a self-catering option. Secure off-street parking is available, but limited, so guests towing trailers, boats, caravans, etc. should inform us, at the time of booking, so that arrangements can be made.

The Dining Room is open for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast, served from 7:00am, is a choice of continental or full English or both and is included in the rate, dinner is extra. Whilst Karoo Lamb is very popular, we can arrange for any dish that you desire, provided that the ingredients are available. Special dietary requirements are also catered for - please advise us of your needs at the time of booking. We are fully licensed and the pub has, amongst the usual beverages, a collection of over 150 SA brandies whilst there is also a fair selection of Malt Whiskeys, wines and beers.

Besides a large selection of up-to-date magazines in each room, there are folders containing much information about the history of Colesberg and its involvement in the Anglo-Boer War. The Barracks - The reason for the N1.

Perfectly situated stopover, next to the N1 and near Colesberg, for travellers from Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal to the Cape, Kuilfontein Stable Cottages offers superior Provencal-style accommodation in a delightful converted stable block. The historic former racehorse stud farm has been in the Southey family since 1875. Leigh and Penny Southey, and their staff, are renowned hosts - and guests who stay here often become friends.

Kuilfontein has been in the Southey family for five generations, and has borne witness to a rich history, from wars, to drought, and floods. The original homestead was built in 1818, and the present family took ownership in 1875. It has been an ostrich and sheep farm, and racehorse stud and today is a mixed farming operation that produces South Africa's world’s famous Karoo lamb. There are still herds of the original spring buck roaming the plains.

The feed room was the original feed and tack room of the stable block. A fusion of country and contemporary cuisine is served on gleaming yellowwood tables by a resident chef using the farm's produce whenever possible. Start your day with a health breakfast of cereals, muffins and scones, farm butter, and homemade jam. And for winter dinners, treat yourself to the farm's specialty of succulent Karoo lamb or venison.

Colesberg South Africa

Colesberg Accommodation
Colesberg is situated in the beautiful, haunting and majestic Karoo. This sheep-farming area stretches over half-a-million hectares and produces many of South Africa's top merinos. Many stud farms can also be found here and racehorse breeding is a popular activity.

The town is named after 'Coleskop', one of the many koppies (hills) in the area. What makes 'Coleskop', called 'Towerberg' or 'magic mountain' by early travellers, so special is the curious illusion it creates as you travel closer to it - it never seems to near.
