Welcome to Struwig Eco Reserve, a special place in the heart of the African bushveld. The reserve is part of an area of more than two million hectares where Africa’s wild animals, including the Big 5, hippopotamus and crocodile, roam freely in their habitat.

Our chalets are situated on the bank of the Olifants River enabling our visitors to spend hours watching game from the luxury of the visitors area, while having a braai or just relaxing with friends. The reserve has ten thatch roofed chalets and a large thatch roofed dormitory for large groups. Accommodation is modern, comfortable and cleaned daily. Towels are not provided. The rate includes a two hour game drive as well as a bundle of wood per unit. Catering is also available on request.

We have a superb central lapa equipped with a braai area and full views across the Olifants River. The river is lit during evenings and often animal activity can be observed while enjoying a braai. Hear the lion roar, hiena laugh and hippo “talking” at night around the camp.

Our experienced guides will take you on game drives where you can see animals such as lion, leopard, rhino, giraffe and elephant. The more adventurous can go for a walk with an armed guide to meet the animals in their own world, and also experience the smaller wonders of creation.

Keen for some birdwatching, then Struwig is the spot. One can view fish eagles, puffback, kingfishers, waxbills, waders and if you are fortunate, the pells fishing owl.

Struwig is a private reserve which gives our guests exclusive use of our property and that of our neighbouring reserves. This unique setting promises the peace and tranquillity which public reserves cannot provide. We invite you to come and have a unique experience in a place where Africa lives wild.

    Balule Nature Reserve Lodge Accommodation

The Balule Nature Reserve, also called the Balule Private Game Reserve, is situated next to the Kruger National Park. The park was formed in the early 1990s when numerous farm owners removed the fences separating the farms and has since grown to about 35 000 hectares in size.

Balule and the surrounding Olifants and Klaserie Nature Reserves are unfenced and together add an extra 40 000 hectares to the Kruger Park. The area is home to the Big Five and many other animals including wildebeest, waterbuck and giraffe.

Balule is named after the Tsonga name for 'buffalo', and immense herds of these animals can be seen roaming the area. The Olifants River flows through the park for approximately 20 km and offers more sight-seeing options.

There is comfortable accommodation available including air-conditioned chalets, en-suite rondavels, self-catering bush lodges and luxury safari lodges. Open vehicle game drives and day walks are also available.
