    We stayed right in town. There is not much to do no restaurants except a pub.Good passing through place.Winterton has deteriorated and is not very clean. And one gets a feeling of not being very safe.

    Winterton is just not a town, but a region with its own culture. A little like the winelands in the Cape. There are the magnificent Drakensburg mountains as a backdrop to a plethora of other interests in the area. The Winterton area is steeped in South African History for the buffs that want to see the battles that occurred during the Boer/English/Zulu wars. There is also the magnificent Drakensburg Escarpment that carries its own history of the SAN people. The area is a National Heritage site and a sanctuary for many protected birds of prey.
