Mananara Lodge

Mananara Lodge is located in Anjozorobe Primary Forest, 100 km north of the capital of Madagascar, Antananarivo. Anjozorobe forest is one of the last vestiges of primary forest of the Malagasy highlands and is home to 11 species of lemurs, 82 species of birds, and many more unusual endemic reptiles and amphibians that can only be found in Madagascar. There are also over 100 species of plants, including rare and wild orchids.

Our eco lodge offers an exclusive forest experience with all comforts, far away from civilization, roads and people with a unique silence only broken by the indris’ calls. Mananara Lodge endeavours to protect this forest and promote responsible and sustainable tourism. The lodge offers only five Tented Bungalows, two doubles and three twins, tucked in the forest. Each bungalow features a bathroom with hot water, a shower and a bath, a chimney, king-size or twin beds, electricity in the evenings and mornings, and a terrace with forest views.

Mananara Lodge also offers a wide range of excursions, from easy walks to difficult hikes, from 45 minutes to several hours, through the forest or visiting the villages and the school. Discover the surroundings through our signposted paths or ask for a guided excursion. When the weather is bad and in the evenings, play games or read a book from our library near the fireplace.

Enjoy meals in our restaurant at the cosy chimney fire or on the terrace. We serve French, Malagasy and international specialities, as well as Creole and Algerian plates including grilled zebu fillet, coconut chicken, romazava, lemon chicken olives tagine, red chorba, and hungarian goulash. At the bar, try our home-made rum punch and taste one of our 19 different kinds of rum arranges which include rum with ginger, lychee, banana, guava, and pineapple. An all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet includes coffee, tea, chocolate, herbal tea, seasonal fruits, natural fruit juice, bread, butter, jam, honey, cheese and ramanonaka, cooked early in the morning of the fire.

En route to Mananara Lodge, guests will see beautiful highlands countryside, paddy fields and small marina villages along the way. The road is tarred and in good condition until Anjozorobe village, but for the last 10 km which lead to the lodge amidst the forest, a four-wheel drive vehicle is required.
