Description

Although most of the smaller towns in this part of Mpumalanga are close to the Kruger National Park, Hazyview is the closest – just a short hop to the Phabeni, Numbi and Kruger Gates. It’s a pretty little town with some lovely guest houses on the outskirts, and a couple of good restaurants.

If you’re not the sort who likes to keep your feet on the ground, you could go for a microlight flip, a scenic helicopter flight or even ride in a hot air balloon. There are fun mountain biking trails, which you could do as an escorted trip, if you wish, horse trails, kloofing trips or paddling on the Sabie River, abseiling and, of course, escorted safaris into Kruger National Park.

For something a bit more cultural, you could tour a Shangaan village or a coffee plantation and roastery.

Hazyview is a great destination if you just want to get away from it all and enjoy the scenery of Mpumalanga! It's also a great stepping stone into the Kruger Park which is just a stone's throw away! Well worth the visit, just make sure to bring a camera!

Beautiful area, VERY concerned about the conditions of the road, the R535 betwen Graskop and Hazyview is a death trap. The potholes are disgusting and dangerous. It appears that NO effort is being made to maintain the road. It spoiled the ambiance of the area as you are not afforded the oppertunity to enjoy the scenery due to concentrating at not loosing your life.

We also loved Hazyview because of its central location of where we wanted to go. It just was very busy, but I expect it can be expected when you are there in December. All the big shops, like SPAR, Pick & Pay and Checkers are also in Hazyview.

We loved Hazyview because of its central location for where we wanted to go. If you want to travel the area thats where you should be. So many beautiful places to stay and breathtaking sceneries to enjoy. I must honestly say though the next time we come that way we will try stay in Graskop a few days and breakfast every morning at "Graskop Pancakes" best food I have ever eaten while on holiday. Breakfast. Lunch, Supper all great all good value for money. A lovely tribute to the Harley Davidson and the bikers. They also offer a tour on the bikes so make sure to stop there. The best. Hazyview has got spectacular views, but the crime and filth expected from places in Gauteng, is evident. We were harassed by five men, trying to gain excess into our chalet in the early hours of the morning, leaving a very bad taste and the good memories are forgotten.

This is such a peaceful place. Away from the hustle & bustle of city life(which is not good by the way). The mountain views & the fresh natural air just have a way of relieving stress. Most activities are nearby & a trip to Hazyview is necessary at least once a year. It does wonders to the mind, body, skin, hair, blood pressure....u name it.

There are no words to describe the tranquility, serenity, calming, relaxing, enjoyable, exquisite views, surroundings, nature and animals. Most accommodation provides the "luxury" of modern day life (swimming pools etc) but nature is a breath away. Both worlds are combined into one which caters for everyones needs.

Hazyview is a quick getaway for the weekend. A perfect place to relax and explore all our country has to offer. With the Kruger park a stone throw away you can go on game drives and safari to experience the big 5. The scenic drive around Hazyview is breath-taking and the ever changing landscape is worth the trip. Loads of activities for all age groups and taste.

Hazyview is a really beautiful place but while close to the park it is a bit of a drive to other things in the area i.e. mac mac falls pilgrim's rest etc. There are ampple shops if you are staying in self catering venues but a lack of restuarants for families. The area is beautiful and peaceful, we had a very restful stay.

After a three and a half scenic drive to Nelspruit, and a short scanter ,it truly is a joy to enter Hazyview ,a delightful town with quaint shops and somewhat Van Riebeeck style buildings, the peacefullness of the town almost immediately calms you down into a semi"i am at home state of mind".Staying just 20 minutes away from Phabeni Gate, you couldn't ask for more amenities, modern shopping centers, plenty of restaurants and truly hospitality focused people. It has become our destination of choice every year.

Hazyview is very well situated if you are wanting to go for game drives and see the Big 5 or if you want to see the beautiful scenery that the area has to offer with God's Window, Blyde River Canyon and the numerous waterfalls that are within easy driving distance. Hazyview has accommodation for all ranging from camp sites and self catering chalets to luxury lodges. The shopping center will cater for all of your needs and the tourist info center can recommend many activities depending on tastes and budgets. All in all, Hazyview is a great destination if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle and get out into nature.

Mpumalanga has always been a bit of an escape for me...just a few hours out of Johannesburg you have the makings for an incredible drive through, day break, weekend...or even an extended holiday... Time being limited we decided to make the best of our drive to Kruger Park and explore the surrounding areas, and stay a night in Hazyview because of its close proximity to the Kruger Parks Numbi Gate... We tentatively booked a night at Gecko Backpackers. We weren’t expecting much, but thought that we were really just looking for a bed for the night... WE WERE REALLY SUPRISED!!! Having driven through heavy rains and missing out on seeing almost everything we had hoped to see due to the heavy mist, we easily found "Gecko's"... we slowly drove down a very muddy driveway into a bushed area that revealed the Gecko Backpackers... We were greeted by friendly staff who quickly ran out with umbrellas to greet us... We booked in and confirmed that we had opted to braai for the night... They asked if they could help us to our rooms, and suggested that we have a hot "bush shower" whilst they started our braai for us... had we been the drinking type, there was a fully stocked cash bar available... After a very comfortable night’s sleep in the mixed dormitory on our 3-level bunks we woke up at 5am to beat the masses to the Numbi gate! We slowly emerged from our rooms to an incredible day...sun shining through the canopy above the lodge, the leaves glistening off the wet leaves in the early morning sun...We saw bugs, wild hares, beautiful birds and even a small buck hiding between the foliage near the driveway... A REAL PARADISE... Needless to say we wondered around a little, missing the Kruger gates opening by a little under an hour! DON'T be put off by this backpackers lodge... AND don't think that because Geckos is VERY affordable that you will be staying in a shabby dirty place... Gecko's is worth a stop... for students as well as families...

Every time we have been to Hazyview it has been an amazing experience. The accommodation has been amazing at all the places that we have stayed and the people are so friendly and helpful! It is our number one holiday destination! With the resorts being so close to The Kruger National Park it is perfect for us when we go on a family holiday as we spend a lot of time in the park. If we don't feel like going into the park there are plenty other activities that we could do such as zip lining, water rafting, going on an elephant trail and visiting Jessica the hippo to mention a few. I always recommend Hazyview top my friends as each time we have been it has been one to remember.

Hazyview is a rather low key town in very pretty surroundings. Close to the Paul Kruger Gate of the Kruger National Park, it is surrounded by cute guest houses, backpackers hostels and campsites. The Sabie River, which is good for a fun day’s rafting, runs nearby and there are hot air balloon trips on offer. It is a drive of about five hours from Johannesburg. Hazyview, is nestled on the slopes of the Drakensberg Mountain Range, this town also has a history of gold mining and played an important part in the development of the Lowveld area. Hazyview is a small farming town in Mpumalanga, South Africa and is renowned for its banana industry. The name is derived from the shimmering haze that occurs here during the heat of summer. Most of Mpumalanga's private game reserves are found just east of Hazyview. The town is strategically placed midway between spectacular scenery of the escarpment and the wild life experience of the Kruger National Park. Hiking trails through the beautiful forests with cool, rushing streams and picturesque waterfalls are truly a delight. Hazyview offers sporting facilities such as golf, tennis, bowls, and the area is well known for its trout fishing. Hazyview provides the best of both worlds. With luxury hotels, upmarket guest lodges, time share resorts, caravan parks, accommodation for backpackers etc. Hazyview is well set to cater for all needs. One can explore the local Shangaan culture at the famous Shangana Cultural Village, about 5 km west of Hazyview. The user-friendly cultural village offers visitors the opportunity to interact with the local Shangaan people and to enjoy a taste of traditional cuisine. Entrance is free to the reception area and its craft shop, but the village can only be visited on a guided tour. The tour follows a winding path through fields and bush to the kraal, where a family lives. You'll also meet a sangoma and learn about traditional remedies. The Nyani Shangaan Cultural Village is also an option, as is Matsulu Village – a traditional Ndebele Village.

Hazyview is strategically situated 35kms east of Sabie and 17km west of the Kruger National Park, midway between the spectacular scenery of the great escarpment and the world-famous game lodges - a town on a crossroads, where six major roads, all leading to different tourist attractions, converge. Within a short drive of Rissington Inn are the Phabeni, Numbi and Paul Kruger Gates of the world’s largest Game Reserve. The Blyde River Canyon, the third largest in the world, with magnificent views and drops as deep as 3000ft (1000m) is half an hour away, as are God’s Window, a sweeping view over the Lowveld from high up on the escarpment, Bourke’s Luck Potholes - where the Blyde and Treur rivers meet, causing fascinating rock foundations - and Pilgrims Rest, the restored gold rush town, home of Jock of the Bushveld. Not to mention all the magnificent waterfalls, superb and varied scenery, deep and wonderful caves and plenty of history from Bushmen to Voortrekkers…. The first recorded mention of Hazyview was by Harry Wolhuter, the famous Kruger National Park ranger. His life was saved here by Perry, a French-Canadian member of Steinaecker’s Horse, a cavalry regiment in the Anglo-Boer War. Wolhuter was suffering from Black Water fever. Perry was granted a farm on the Sabie River by the government and there he founded a trading store. He had no family and on his death he willed the farm to Wolhuter, who was obliged to sell it to liquidate his debts. The village of Hazyview was officially promulgated in 1959 when the first Post Office was established and Hazyview station came into being when the old Selati line was re-routed outside the Kruger National Park at Kaapmuiden in the late 1960’s. Hazyview is now not only a tourism hub, but also a thriving farming community - a centre for the farming of bananas, coffee, avocados, mangoes. lychees, citrus fruits and macadamias among other things. More than half of the world’s bananas are grown within 100km of Hazyview and the ground is so fertile it is said that if you planted a gum boot you’d grow a rubber tree! The bananas were planted in the 1950’s and since then the number of farms has grown and grown. Hazyview is the perfect place for a base for a holiday - golf, tennis, bowls, horse-riding, squash, river-rafting, bird-watching, hiking, mountain biking, history tours, elephant sanctuaries and magnificent game-viewing are all available and to be strongly recommended.

Hazyview may be seen through the Eye of God's Window, as it lives in the hauntingly beautiful picture of the 'real' Africa. It is the Jewel in the Crown of the Savanna Country where history speaks of the slave raiders, ivory hunters, Gold greedy frenzy, and shines in the glow of the Rising Sun in the East of the Lowveld Escarpment water surging 1000 meters, displaying veils of bridal spectacles, delighting the lens. Joyful explorers are inspired by the Panorama Route with the Blyde River Canyon and gorge being one of the scenic wonders of Africa which leads to Pilgrims Rest which offered up its Gold as a living museum. It fulfills the legends and images of the Traveller' dream to visit the Wild and wonderful Africa, the illusive Kruger Millions, and the quest to focus lenses of eyes and cameras on the splendour of Wildlife in the world famous Kruger National Park considered by many to be the heart-beat of Africa. And Hazyview, the Gateway to these and many other experiences, like a garmet which fits all. For the adventurous, it is notorious for the unpresidented variety of activities, water sports, nature engagements, golf courses, restaurants and safaris, in the true sense of adventure, to mention a few, horse riding, river rafting, quad biking, Shangaan traditional dining and dancing, as well as air trips in Hot Air Balloons, Microlights and Helicoptors, to top it all! Not to mention the vast offer of accommodation, from Star Graded to Back Packing/camping experiences, including pampering body and soul, to complete this unique experience of coming to Hazyview, Mpumalanga.

Hazyview is situated in the heart of all the attractions that attract tourists to this area. Our main attraction is the world famous Kruger National Park and I believe a site that most tourists have on their ajenda when visiting our country. Our panoramic routes which includes places like God's Window, the blyde river canyon and all the waterfall sites surrounding the area. For the adrenalin junkies there are more than enough to keep their blood levels on a high, from king swings, river rafting, quad biking and horse riding to the more subtle micro-lite flights and elephant interaction. The African cuisine is all to die for with some spectacular entertainment while dining under the open african starlit sky. An adventure so great, where ever you hail from, your experience will be the main topic in your conversation for months to come.

Hazyview is the best holiday destination by far as we have fantastic winter weather, no frost and lovely sunny days. Summer is nice and hot with the odd rain shower just to cool things off. We offer all sorts of accommodation facilities: Self catering, chalets, Camping, Hotels and Caravans. There is a thrill for every taste, culinary, outdoors, and sports. Then of course we have the Kruger National Park at our doorstep.

We ♥ Hazyview because … Hazyview has got it`s name from the heavy haze that dominates the Eastern Lowveld in summertime. It is the gateway to the magnificent Panorama Route, as a centre for adventure activities and of course for it’s close proximity to the Kruger National Park. When the weather is good, we like to take in the beauty of the Panorama Route and marvel at the clear crisp views, walk in the mountains and remind myself how lucky I am to live here. When the weather is bad, we like to visit the Kruger National Park, where the animals are more active, we often see nocturnal animals on dull days and the rainy weather brings out the tortoises. But we love the Kruger in hot weather too! We think the best time to visit Hazyview is all year round, because our winter days are warm and sunny with chilly nights. Our summers are hot and sometimes rainy with spectacular thunderstorms but we adore the balmy evenings under the stars. Our favourite breakfast spot is of course the veranda of our own guest house with our beautiful garden view. Our favourite restaurant is Pioneers Butcher & Grill - try the best fillet steak in South Africa. For some African Culture we like to go to the Shangaan Evening Festival for an evening of African Theatre and feast. To relax and restore the soul, we like to relax at our own pool. If you are feeling adventurous, try one of the dozens of activities available in the area, from Abseiling to Quad Biking. Our favourite bird watching spot our own garden and on the Sabie River Bungalows Golf course. We ♥ Hazyview because it is the friendliest place we’ve ever lived. Hazyview is a laid back little town with the huge added bonus of Kruger Park on the doorstep.

Hazyview is located in the heart of the Sabi River Valley. This little getaway lies against the backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountains surrounded by the breathtaking countryside. The frost-free climate, natural beauty and vegetation in the hub of the Lowveld, is unsurpassed anywhere in the country. Visitors can enjoy a round of golf, which is available at the Sabi Sun Timeshare resort. There are two elephant sanctuaries in Hazyview where you can ride elephants and interact with them. There are many activities for the adrenalin junkies, like Skytrails, Hot air ballooning and flips in microlights and The Jump in Graskop which is nearby. Then there is something for the more romantic at heart. There are lovely wedding venues in the are and the Lovely Summerfield SPA and beautiful roses, an absolute must. Lunch on the deck with a glass of wine looking onto the Sabi River is an awesome experience. Hazyview is a 12 km drive away from the Kruger National Park’s Phabeni Gate and 60 km from the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. Other popular attractions located a short drive away include Sabie, Graskop, Pilgrims Rest, Mac Mac Falls and God’s Window.

Hazyview has the perfect climate for an all-year holiday destination. The hot summer days are excellent for relaxing next to the pool after a morning's drive in the Kruger National Park or a round of golf with family and friends. The cold winter days can be spend driving the Panorama Route in Mpumalanga, visiting places like Sabie, Mac Mac Pools, Mac Mac Falls, Graskop, God's Window, Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve and Bourke's Luck Potholes or spending the day looking for the big five in the Kruger National Park.

Great place to stay and most areas of interest are not far away. The nightlife is not bad at all with a few bars nearby.

Die omgewing is klein maar rustig. Daar is lekker aktiwiteite om te geniet in die area. The town is small but peaceful. There are many exciting activities to experience in the area.

Hazyview is wonderfully located. Within 10 km of the Kruger Park gate, it is also located on the Sabie river offering loads of outdoor excitement like river rafting, quad biking and golf. The little town itself has come a long way and now has loads of restaurants, and a few pubs!
