Description
This magical spot is set within strolling distance from the Old Pont entrance of the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve and River. It is also close to a number of unspoiled beaches which makes it the ideal destination to promote an up-close view of nature, combined with a host of outdoor activities.
Umtamvuna River, 'the waters that reap', is 160 km in length. Superb grasslands, great gorges gashed into raw rock, cliffs of vari-coloured sandstone, sparkling waterfalls and forests of fascinating complexity teaming with rare fauna and flora invite you to explore. The Umtamvuna Nature Reserve has the backdrop of the Indian Ocean and comprises 3275 hectares. It plays host to 1250 species of flowering plants, 320 of which are trees and shrubs. The UNR contains more kinds of rare trees than anywhere else in southern Africa. Spot 259 species of birds, 54 species of reptile and 29 species of small mammals. Not surprisingly, the reserve is internationally acclaimed as a reservoir of exciting biological secrets and has drawn the interest of scientists from all over the world.
We have created a relaxed, friendly environment with a bush-with-comfort design. Our rooms all have their own chill spots and boast fantastic views. Breakfast and meals on request are served in our communal lounge-dining room hosted by ourselves.
Take one of our canoes, armed with a packed picnic, and gently paddle up river through great gorges of cliffs, adding an element of adventure to your day. Take a gentle or strenuous hike through a breathtaking botanical paradise and rejuvenate your soul.
Various activities are available such as hiking, mountain bike trails, canoe trips, river and deep sea fishing, horse riding, and dolphin and whale spotting.
Support one of our established community projects - a guided hike to experience a warm village welcome, a traditional meal, learning about their cultures and crafts and visit a Sangoma. Our philosophy is a family that plays together, stays together.
