Description
Aloe Kaya is a two double story wooden and glass fantasy huts built right into the sandstone rocks that make this place so unique. Each hut accommodates a maximum of 12 hikers on six bunk beds. The kitchen area is equipped with fridge, hot plate, sink, cutlery, pots, pans and braai areas. The camp is electrified with ladies with three showers and two toilets. There are four rocks out door showers and three toilets with a view for all.
Basic Trail Description: Day 1: The five-assegai escarpment sandstone maze trail. This whole day 13.5 km trail is moderately difficult self-guided trail with a 400 meter rise to ascend. The trail starts at the Bobbejaans Vervit huts descends the Bankspruit canyon at the foot of the Brides leap’ waterfall the second highest in Mpumalanga and follows the spruit past pools and rapids and through the unique sandstone maze that is the Skurwerand.
Day 2: The Hell’s Bell’s Trail. Descending from the camp down the magnificent Hell’s Kloof, through one of the most pristine sections of yellow wood forest filled with bird life, past secret and special places the trail drops 400 meters through a kaleidoscope of terrain down to the fish eagle dam is a moderately difficult assent back to base.
The Oom Pauls Backpackers Trail: This trail is moderately difficult 2 day backpackers trail dropping from Bermanzi into the Bankspruit and then ascending and crossing the Skurwerand, through the sandstone maze to the Bobbejaans Krans camp, returning on the second day along the rim of the Elands river Gorge down into the Bankspruit canyon at the foot of the Brides leap Falls along the river and ascending again to the Bermanzi camp.
