Windhoek Guest House

Windhoek Guest House is a beautiful old home offering a peaceful stay in one of the original streets of Sutherland. The Karoo town is located approximately 120 km north of Matjiesfontein in the Roggeveld of the Karoo and offers clear, dark night skies where astronomers come to use the telescopes of the South African Astronomical Observatory.

Sutherland is also close to the sites of the unique corbel houses, which can only be found in and around the towns of Fraserburg, Williston and Cararvon, and look like stone beehives. In addition, Sutherland is one of the coldest towns in the country, with frequent snow falls during winter.

Accommodation at Windhoek Guest House is offered in three guest rooms with two bathrooms. Room 1 features its own en-suite bathroom with a corner bath, where you can relax after a cold winter’s day, while the other two rooms share a bathroom. Each room is equipped with a duvet and extra blankets, electric blankets, as well as an electric oil heater. There is also a heater in the en-suite bathroom of Room 1.

To make your stay more enjoyable, Windhoek Guest House has a sheltered outside barbecue area and the kitchen features an Aga stove which is lit during winter, creating a relaxing atmosphere. The kitchen is equipped with a microwave, fridge, freezer, electric stove, cutlery and crockery and guests also have use of a communal TV area.

Attractions in and around Sutherland include the Ouberg Pass, Tankwa-Karoo National Park, Perlman House Pub and Restaurant and Oudag se Koffiewinkel.
