Avondzon is a self catering holiday estate of 266 ha in the eastern Free State of South Africa. It is situated halfway between Bethlehem and Fouriesburg, almost 6 km from the village of Slabberts, which is situated at the R26 road, at a distance of about 300 km south of Johannesburg.

The estate is particularly ideal for nature lovers who will admire its tranquility, birds and beautiful scenery. The altitude of about 1800 m of this region guarantees a mild subtropical climate for most of the year.
The nearest national park is the Golden Gate park at a distance of about 65 km.

About one third of this farm is occupied by a beautiful mountain range.
Most of the land is still in use as farmland for wheat and corn, as well as grazing land for cattle.

In the main house is a fireplace and small electrical fan heaters are provided for chilly winter nights. On top of the mountain there is an antenna for cell telephone communications, so the reception is perfect.
Water is supplied from private wells and is of excellent quality.

The cottage, with its thatched roof, is situated at a short distance from the main house. It has a comfortable and spacious sitting/dining room, a bathroom with shower, bath, washbasin and toilet. There is one bedroom below with two single beds and one upstairs with a double bed. The kitchen is equipped with a four plate electrical stove and a refrigerator with freezer compartment. Outside there is a nice terrace in front, where you can enjoy your breakfast in the morning sun and a good glass of South African wine in the evening. Barbeque facilities are between the main house and the flat.

We enjoyed it and had a wonderful time at Avondzon. We did lots of hiking in sandstone koppies, stargazing at night and saw lovely sunsets. It is very peaceful and the bird life is a treat!

Peaceful, affordable, no frills, clean accommodation. Walks around the farm to view rock paintings were interesting. Hosts Egbert and Dicky are very friendly. We enjoyed our stay.
