Amazian Mountain River Lodge Drakensberg

Description

Break away to a Malaria-free zone and escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Get pampered with personalized service in the ultimate tranquil surroundings at Amazian Mountain River Lodge, a privately owned lodge, situated in the Southern Drakensberg.

Relax in one of our seven luxury honeymoon suites over looking out over the river, complete with spa baths and heating facilities. Enjoy a spectacular view sipping champagne whilst having an aromatherapy, hot stone or crystal stone massage treatment. Still your mind even further by going for a beautiful scenic walk to the gorge or to our special Labyrinth. Go for a romantic quad bike picnic or meet our resident otter family and monitor lizard while rowing up the river on our fisherman's boat. For the avid fly-fisherman, try you hand at catching wild, rainbow or brown trout on the 3.5 km river bank. Test the river's strength and rapids with our comfortable tubes on a mild one and a half-hour journey. Book an archery lesson in Robin Hood’s little forest and get the adrenalin rush of hitting a bullseye.

Recharge and explore the beautiful mountain scenery on horseback, go on a guided Bushman’s rock art hike or hike into a world heritage site. Experience a 4x4 trip and have a Maluti beer in the highest pub in Africa. For the avid birdwatcher, over 300 bird species are found in the area, including the Black stork, the Bald ibis, the Bearded and Cape vultures, the Black eagle, the Jackal buzzard and many more. End the day with a romantic evening savoring our chef's gourmet creations and recommended wines. Round the evening off with a lesson in astronomy topped with a glass of port. The legendary Alan Paton’s Express offers scheduled train trips, reliving the past and offer an experience of travelling back in time in one of the only trains of its kind still operational.

For the rugby or sports fanatics, Saturday afternoons offer a big screen TV for a big match and we celebrate afterwards with a traditional potjie or braaivleis dinner. Be prepared to be overwhelmed with wonder. Due to the nature of the establishment and surroundings, only children over 15 years are allowed.

Thanks so much to Brett and Tridie for the warm welcome and fantastic stay! The meals were 'magnifico' and the accommodation very comfortable - the scenery stunning! We will definitely be back. We will have to try the lunch at the Winery!
Heaven in the Drakensburg

This is a great place with well-appointed rooms, a scenic river view, gourmet food, and a unique concept wine cellar. Affordable 5 Star luxury. You must do the tubing adventure down the river. A must visit for everyone visiting the area. I have travelled extensively and have to say that this was one of my most pleasing stopovers ever.
Picture perfect

We had a good rest and were ready for the New Year and its challenges. The view was picture perfect and the food divine. Brent and Trudie handled us like royalty and nothing, no matter how small, was too much effort for them. The rooms were of high quality and very clean and comfortable. The variety of wine from which we could choose was extensive and the price was excellent. We strongly recommend this lodge.
