In the early 1980s, The Marine found its guardian angel in David Rawdon. With meticulous care and unwavering dedication, he painstakingly restored the hotel over the course of four years. This passionate investment bore fruit, and for thirteen glorious years, The Marine thrived under his stewardship.
However, the time had come for a new chapter in the timeless tale of this grand old lady. In March 1998, a remarkable woman named Liz McGrath stepped forward to embrace the challenge, becoming the new owner of The Marine Hotel. And so, the rebirth of this historic establishment commenced in earnest.
As with her other renowned properties in The Collection, the indelible mark of Liz McGrath's commitment to excellence was imprinted upon The Marine. Employing a team of supremely gifted designers, she ensured that every inch of the hotel, from the serene bedrooms to the stylish public spaces, exuded an unparalleled level of sophistication and comfort.
After nine months of unwavering dedication to restoration and transformation, The Marine emerged in October 1998 as a beacon of opulence, reclaiming its rightful place as a 5-star haven for discerning travelers. This great lady now stands as a testament to the visionary architects and craftsmen who breathed life into her a century ago, while simultaneously boasting all the modern amenities a contemporary traveler could dream of.
The Marine tempts guests with an array of 40 exquisitely decorated bedrooms and suites. Each offers a sanctuary of privacy, complete with luxurious amenities. As you gaze out from your room, the breathtaking views of Walker Bay, the enchanting internal courtyard, meticulously manicured gardens, and the majestic Overberg Mountains paint a portrait of paradise, inviting you to immerse yourself in the beauty of your surrounds.
