About Red Earth

If you and your family need a quiet, peaceful breakaway then Red Earth farmhouse is just the place for you. The farmhouse was built from red earth dug on the farm. The bricks made from the red clay were sun dried and used without firing them. This retained the rich red colour.

It's very much a homemade home. Red Earth is on the farm Buffelsfontein, 25 kilometers from Magaliesburg and 40 kilometers from Rustenburg. It lies in the Bankenveld, which is on the transition between the Bushveld and the Highveld.

Here life is simple and unwinds into peacefulness and tranquility. There are still small buck, baboons, porcupines, monkeys, rabbits and a variety of bird species on the farm.

Red Earth offers self catering accommodation for the family, sleeping 6 guests. There are 3 bedrooms, a large lounge, dining area, kitchen, pantry and a bathroom with a bath and shower.

The main bedroom has a queen bed and the 2nd bedroom has a double bed. The 3rd bedroom has a single bed and a futon. The kitchen is fully stocked with cutlery, crockery, toaster, fridge and stove. There is a braai facility on the stoep, we supply firewood. Children of all ages are welcome to stay at Red Earth.

Things to do include hiking into the kloof to find the cave and up the big mountain to view ancient stone circles. Bring your own bikes to cycle on the kilometers of dirt roads in the area. Swimming in the farm reservoir. Suntan and relax on the walls, enjoying the stunning view.

Children can interact with the chickens and rabbits we keep. Drawing materials and paper is available for them to use.

What a lovely stay! It was beautiful! Very comfy and had everything we needed. It was exactly the holiday we needed. We spent most of our time in the little cave, which is a short hike up and over the koppie. Highly recommend

What a peaceful getaway spot for family or group of friends.Spent most of the time outside by the fire place which was well stocked with wood. Really enjoyed swimming with the kids. Had to always keep an eye out for the kids whenever they were outside because of the fencing but managed fine.Advise for future visitors: Take a bakkie or a vehicle with a decent height suspension when traveling to this wonderful place.

Allan is the perfect host and his establishment is so interesting, from the red earth brickwork to the unusual window frames. We particularly enjoyed the dam, a great place to chill and forget the rat race back home. Being a family of animal lovers, we especially enjoyed the little black and white spotted doggie that "adopted" us for the weekend.Thank you Allan, we had a marvelous time and we wish many patrons to cross your threshold in the years to come.

The pics are a bit deceiving. The pool looks amazing but was full of algae and about 200m away from where you staying. There are no rails on teh stoop to protect kids from fulling 2m down into the garden in some places. There were many flies when we were there which was a bother. There were two dogs who kept begging for food which was also a bit of a bother. Be careful of teh ticks!!!

It was a wonderful break from the city. No motor vehicle road noise. Tranquil and peaceful. Walks were amazing as was swimming in the reservoir. Beautiful bush. Really great bird life on your doorstep. Allan was very helpful and the girls loved going to see the chickens and rabbits with Farmer Allan
