A really special place.

If you are searching for the ideal spot in the midlands to rejuvenate your soul, this is the place to stay.

Generous, warm hosts, awesome accommodation, and an amazing setting overlooking the Kilgobbin Forest.

Could not ask for more.

Enchantingly Beautiful!

There are no words which can actually express the absolute sense of 'peace & well being' I experienced during my stay at Crowned Eagle Cottage.

I could just as well have been perched on the edge of an Enchanted Forest with only the magical creatures therein for company...

The Cottage exceeded even my high expectations, and the warm welcome and extra touches such as the Card & Flowers /Hot Chocolate / Tea / Coffee & Rusks were an absolutely delightful surprise.

Thank you so much for the most memorable, tranquil and truly amazing time I spent in your Garden of Eden.

We will be back - again and again!

Wonderful stay @ Crab Apple

We had such a lovely stay at Crab Apple cottages. Everything was just perfect!

We took our two Toy Poms with and they absolutely loved it!

Thank you to Barend and Helen for such a relaxing stay.

This is just to report to you that we had an absolutely super time at Crab Apple cottages. We had friendly greetings from the owners and their pets. A letter, a vase of roses and a chocolate greeted us in the unit. The unit was very clean and we were provided with toiletries in the bathroom and detergents in the kitchen. The units are serviced and a laundry facility provided. The farm itself is absolutely in a stunning part of the country and the scenery is beautiful. The cottages are only about 15 minutes out of Howick where you can purchase anything. Definitely will return and seriously recommended.
The Best

Crab Apple Cottages was definitely the "best for last". As the last place on our holiday, Crab Apple Cottages left us wanting to extend our stay longer than just one night. We felt welcomed from the first meeting with Barend and left feeling like family after watching Helen and her horses. The cottage was warm and had everything we needed. The small details noticed and will always be remembered. Next time we will stay for at least three days.
Awesome piece of paradise!

What an awesome special little piece of paradise! We had a thoroughly relaxing stay at the beautiful Crowned Eagle thatched cottage. The well-equipped and very private cottage has a stunning view over the valley and forest, gorgeous fireplace and even underfloor heating! Plus extra touches everywhere, from the chocolates on our pillows, fresh roses and beautiful card welcoming us in the bedroom - to name a few - proof of how much our warm and friendly hosts, Helen and Barend, care about everyone who stays with them. : )

Very comfortable and very well equipped. Tastefully furnished and homely. Every need is catered for. Spotlessly clean. Our cottage was Stared Robin Cottage.
So accommodating
Charne Macklin, South Africa - 31 March 2014
Helen was so amazing. Such a helpful lady and was accommodating in the fact that we had a wedding in the afternoon and she let us book in earlier. The cottage was neat and tidy and had a beautiful view. Definitely very tranquil and peaceful. Cute little fire place and we had coffee tea and hot chocolate provided. What more can you ask for. Would definitely recommend Crab Apple to people in the future.

Absolutely fantastic. We really enjoyed our stay and the beauty of the surroundings. The cottages was well equipped and the attention to detail is excellent. This is exactly what we needed to switch off and get away from the busy city life. Can't wait to go back for more!

Marcelle Southey, South Africa - 16 April 2012
We unfortunately only spent one night, but what a fabulous time we had. We were made to feel so welcome. The cottage was most comfortable and the walks were amazing. Underfloor heating was on and the electric blankets had even been switched on for us! Helen & Barend truly care for their guests. Thank you so much!

Fur-children are permitted by arrangement and there is free Wi-Fi available. You are welcome to explore the forest and guided forest walks are available by arrangement. Over 200 bird species are recorded in the Dargle and we are a summer stop over spot for a pair of Yellow Billed Kites who migrate annually from Central Africa. We have built a bird-hide where bird lovers can view the abundant birdlife from the comfort of the hide. We have also invested in a generator to ensure that should Eskom load shed, you will enjoy the luxury of a continuous electricity supply. There will be no ‘lights out’ during your stay with us. As enthusiastic supporters of local living, the Booysens have used local suppliers to furnish the cottages. Our delicious spring water, from the taps, is drinkable.
