Great weekend
TRACY HOFFENBERG, South Africa - 08 October 2016
We were pleasantly surprised by our accommodation, not only decorative, but well stocked with everything one might require or need.

The new Owners, Bertus, Landie, their daughter Elanda, and the caretaker, Hendrik, were great hosts and went out of their way to make our stay and memorable one.

We would definitely recommend Mountain Mala to anyone wanting a quiet break away from the hustle and bustle of Urban living without having to travel too far.

We loved Mountain Mala, it was exactly the peaceful, tranquil getaway my family needed - so close to Johannesburg - we will definitely be back. The new owners are passionate about nature and creating a little heaven for city dwellers like me!
Great Ladies getaway

We had a great weekend ever, but if they can check the fridge in room 4 is not working properly. If they can install Wi-Fi and TV. We enjoyed our stay 2 fullest and game driver was exciting. Thanks to Hendrick and Michelle. Maybe if the can install Jacuzzi as well. The rooms were very clean and neat.

I wont lie, at first when i checked in it was ok until on Saturday when i forgot to close the Gate i was told i will be killed and this old man i thought he was sweet and all turned to be opposite on Saturday, couldn't even do the Game drive, i even checked out before time which means i dint even sleep at the lodge on that Saturday, he was very rude, screaming and pointing at me.....the treatment i got in 2012 was way 1st class to what i got now, i am extremely Disappointed as i chose this place knowing it well

We stayed at the small cottage and I had to ask for a grid and an blanket, which the caretaker then took from one of the other chalets - not sure what he would have done if they were booked as well. There was no egg lifter and only the basic utencils. The chalets do not entertain privacy as they are all on top of each other and the caretaker - a very unfriendly person - is always appearing.  The birdlife is abundant, however, stay away from the hide as it not well kept nor is there place to sit. Easy drive from JHB. We won't be back!
Lovely Place - Terrible reception by caretaker
Leon Bruwer, South Africa - 04 July 2016

What a cozy little place, perfect for a get away but if you are expecting to be greeted by friendly folk rather stay away.

A perfect idea for the people who created it but the caretaker allows you no privacy and is not only unfriendly but totally rude to say the least. in Afrikaans I would call him a grompot! They will sadly never see us again, it is terrible being made to feel so unwelcome when you are actually paying for a room.

It is the second time at the lodge and always peaceful and quiet. Was booked in a room with no bath and it after requesting one was moved immediately to another. Great hospitality and care. Thanks for that.

Bitter Sweet

Mountain Mala is a beautiful place and the peacefulness gives it a romantic setting. I do have some critique, their website is misleading and uninformative. The pool is to close to the Large Chalet (Chalet 5) and we felt that to some guests it would seem that the pool is only for that chalet. If the pool was in a more central area it would have been better. The surrounding bush veld is beautiful, unfortunately they do not advise guests that the viewpoints and river is only accessible by means of 4x4 or at least 4x2. The view point is a walking distance away but the river is too far. Besides the few things is it a perfect place for a romantic getaway. We will be returning.
Stunning views

Not what I expected. Housekeeping could do a better job at keeping the rooms clean. Our room looked like it had not been used in a while as there was dust and dead insects everywhere. We had to ask housekeeping to clean specific areas of the room. Also, as a self catering place, one would expect to find the most basic things in the kitchen which were lacking. We also had to ask for a curtain or blinds as the glass door did not have one and one could see the inside of the room from the outside. The only thing that we enjoyed was the game drive and the breathtaking views!
Lovely stay

Mountain Mala Game Lodge
Mountain Mala is a beautiful private game reserve, a mere 15 km from the town of Brits in the malaria-free North West province. The lodge is barely one hour’s drive from the centre of Gauteng and is the ideal getaway where everybody, from young to old, will enjoy a fascinating experience in the wild. The new owners, Kobus and Zelda van Heerden, found a jewel in a beautiful setting which accommodates whole families and gives them the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors at its best.

Mountain Mala borders the Crocodile River giving our guests a stunning view of the river valley between the hills. Mountain Mala has a wide variety of wildlife due to our lush vegetation which makes Mountain Mala ideal for the avid bird watcher or nature enthusiast.

Guests can enjoy game viewing, swimming or just relaxing in the African bushveld. Hunting of select species is available; however we are not just focussed on hunting, but can offer accommodation, game viewing and a relaxing stay for the whole family.
