The accommodation, food and surroundings were excellent! The only little problem was the air conditioning system,we felt it was not efficient to bring relieve from the heat.So we slept with open doors!Something you cannot do at any place!

What a treat it was to stay at Alte Kalkofen Lodge! The room was so beautifully decorated and we felt that every need was catered for. Dinner was an experience not to be missed with delicious food and exciting sightings at the waterhole (bat-eared foxes and an aardwolf). Hilda and Frikkie are warm and welcoming and take such care in everything they do - we loved it - thank you!
A wonderful place to stay

Frikkie and Hilda are such relaxed and welcoming hosts.  It all fits together to be the best place to stay  in the Southern region of Namibia. Highly recommended.

5 Star Oasis

We were a large group of friends on a 4x4 trip. After 3 days of roughing it in the Desert - Alte Kalkofen lodge felt like heaven. The accommodation is superb - spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and not a detail missed. There was even Peaceful sleep in the room. Frikkie and Hilde are amazing hosts and their food is certainly fine dining in our books. Would love to visit them again.
Beautiful stay

Never judge things from the outside. When we first got there it was late and dark and we were a bit concerned, but our minds were blown away 5 minutes after our arrival. The rooms are simple yet extremely luxurious and the cleanliness, which was our main concern, is of the highest standards. If that isn't enough, the food homemade by Hilde herself, is exquisite. Frikkie makes sure that everything else runs smoothly, and they both will go the extra mile to please you. Wonderful stay both thumbs up. Antonello & Family.

What a wonderful experience! Everything is 5-star! From the friendly reception, the excellent dinner and breakfast, the clean white linen, the beautiful sunsets to the shower under the stars. We will definitely re-visit and can recommend to anyone!

Rated the hospitality 100%. Frikkie and Hilde are natural hosts and all their efforts seemed so effortless! The accommodation was very good and exceptionally clean and user friendly. We considered the establishment great value for money.
Nice Surprise!!!

We came there without knowing what to expect on our road between Luderitz and Fish River Canyon. What a surprise! The lodge is quiet, beautiful. The food was excellent and the service was efficient. On top of this, the owners are always keen in helping you and sharing stories about this place!

Excellent. We were very well received in this very nice lodge. Very well kept and clean, it's a great option for contemplating the Namibian landscape.
Oasis in the Desert

Only 10 free-standing chalets. Not exactly luxurious, but certainly very acceptable: clean and comfortable. Pity there is no air conditioning. The restaurant alone is enough reason to visit - really excellent.
An absolute highlight!

We loved the stylish decor, the wonderfully comfortable beds and the delicious food. The location is beautiful, with starry skies at night, and deep peaceful silence. The hospitality was first class. We will be back, and stay for longer!
A little gem in the desert

What a wonderful interesting place to stay in Namibia. Accommodation and food excellent and the hosts could not have been friendlier or more helpful, even helped organize a spare tyre for our car without any fuss. The best Gemsbok steak I have ever tasted. The swim in the swimming dam was a real treat. Loved watching all the animals at the waterhole all through the night. So sorry we only spent one night. My husband had a wonderful mountain biking experience. We feel Alta Kalkofen is undersold. We will be back for sure.

This was an excellent experience - we thought we have a self catering unit, fortunately we did not bought food. A small fridge in the room might be a good idea for cooldrink and cold water.

If only we could have stayed longer!

After a day travelling from Springbok via the Fish River Canyon, we were exhausted and hoping for a perfect place to unwind...that is exactly what we found. Sadly we arrived after dark so we missed the sunset but the sunrise at the lodge the following morning was spectacular. The room was comfortable with rustic charm and the view of the watering hole was delightful. The hosts made us feel very welcome and shortly after we arrived, we were served a superb meal - the best meal I have had in a long while and certainly the best food I ate whilst in Namibia. Unfortunately, we had to leave early in the morning to continue our travels through Namibia so we didn't get the chance to sample the inviting looking pool. We will have to return again so we can spend more time relaxing at this wonderful lodge.

We really enjoyed our stay. We were spoiled from the moment we arrived. The interior decor is very stylish and artistic. The food was excellent and also prepared and served by the owners themselves. The view from the cottages is stunning. We were even spoiled by hot waterbottles for the beds. I strongly recommend staying over at Alte Kalkofen Lodge.
Great stay

Oasis in semi-desert

Beautiful, peaceful, amazing place in the middle of nowhere. Great stopover en route Luderitz. We dined like royalty, compliments to the chef, and enjoyed the peace and quite and clearer-than-clear stargazing.

Alte Kalkofen Lodge
Alte Kalkofen Lodge is situated 100 km west from the small historical town Keetmanshoop en-route the main tar road to Luderitz in the Southern part of Namibia. The lodge is set in a beautiful natural African garden where vast open spaces effortlessly combine with the rocky desert area.

The lodge itself offers 10 bungalows as well as two rooms in the farm house, all overlooking large camel thorn trees growing in the river bed. The lodge features its own restaurant where breakfast is served daily. The restaurant is also open to guests for light lunches and home-cooked evening meals.

The area is historical, with many museums, and the lodge itself is a testimony to this. The name Alte Kalköfen, is derived from two old lime ovens situated on the farms Simplon and Sandverhaar. Both ovens were built in the early 1900s with the purpose to produce lime that was used for construction and agricultural purposes.
